Default tracking a jrsc'd gsr

im thinking about putting a jrsc on my gsr but i plan on doing some autox and i wanna go to tracks like laguna seca and willow springs in Ca. i was wondering if the car would run too hot or if id just be better off getting cams and P&P my head. i know the supercharger will make more power but will it be as reliable if tuned correctly being pushed so hard around a track for long periods of time? gimme some info guys thanks

It'll be fine if you look after it. Afew things I would do - oil cooler and oil temp gauge, EGT gauge, and I'd be real tempted to install a Hondata ECU instead of the rising rate FPR that comes with the kit.

On my old GSR I had a JRSC and ran it at the track a lot. And I completly beat the **** out of the car. I had NO overheating problems what so ever. The only problem I had is that I chewed up a supercharger belt at the track once, (8 bucks to fix). But thats it, I reccomend keeping it at the stock boost, the JRSC is incredibly reliable. Car was as reliable as a stock car.. Though i highly reccomend upgrading your brakes as well, as you will be coming into the corners with a lot more speed. Also I would reccomend an LSD if you dont have one, because your car will spin the inside tire even up in 3rd gear. The best thing about it was the added tourqe. Come out of a corner below vtec and the car pulls hard anyway.. Ok I better stop, Im starting to miss that car!

Agreed. Also, an intake temp gauge is a good idea as well. I was seeing temps close to 200 degrees on the back straight at VIR last sunday (gray EG hatch).

I would also STRONGLY recommend getting a J&S Ultra Safeguard. It will protect the engine from detonation. pull timing depending on boost, and will even give you a little control over your fuel.

The Hondata is great but is not 'strictly' necessary on 6 to8 psi of boost.

Would a turbocharged GSR running 9-10 psi on track have the same reliability as the supercharger?

i also plan on upgradeing my brakes before i hit the track and autox's. and i want to get a hondata and get it tuned realy well before i even push the car. but which setup would you guys think would be better for a daily driver/autox sometimes track car? skunk2 stage 1's with some head work or a jrsc at stock boost with stock internals? both would be tuned with a hondata. thanks for the info guys

this is the wrong forum to ask but........

the short answer is neither. for autocross you dont need big brakes. for track use on a b00sted car, you might need big brakes, or a bigger OE swap.

if you want to track/autocross the car and actually learn to drive, leave it alone and learn to drive and dont waste money on big HP numbers because they do not translate into faster laptimes.

im not just doing it for faster lap times. im not gonna be competing against anyone, im gonna be doing it for fun. majority of the time im gonna be driving this car on the street and i want it to have more power, thats why im looking to the jrsc. and i wanna start going to autox's and a few tracks.

Plus if you spend a fortune on the car it is very disappointing to go out there and get owned by things like yugos, suzuki swifts and even saturns. Much better to have the slow car, learn to drive it, and own the Porsches and Ferraris. N'est ce pas?

I can't defend an integra... I give point-bys to old men in wheel chairs.

which run group were you in? for a novice group the instructor is going 95% of the mirror watching.

Yeah, that was definitely an issue in the intermediate group. I'm glad the classroom instructor said something about it but I was one of the 'rice rockets' crowding up on stangs and BMW's in Oak Tree only to have them not back off a little or NOT EVEN GIVE ME A POINT BY on the straight. It was really pissing me off and I came into the pits a lot to find some open track.

Heh, i oWn3d j00 on the exit of oaktree but you have probably double the WHP, so I knew i would be giving the point-by on the back stretch..... i got about 100 yards before the arm was out the window

Good thing i knew your shizzle was b00sted otherwise i'd be rather upset i got r0lled by a primer gray hatchcrap looking thing.... it was quick!

RJ - who put both is Koni ***** in the glovebox now....

He He

Quicker than I know what to do with just yet. I need a lot more seat time and better tires. It was fun as hell on the back straight though. A little scarry actually looking at the speedometer and seeing 130 mph not to mention the cross winds

The paint will look better once I sand, buff and wax it. Its only about 2 weeks old
