How to check CEL light on 99 Passport?

My sis's about to buy a 99 Passport for cheap, but the CEL light came on while driving. What's the procedure for checking it? And anyone got alist of the codes? or is is OBDII?

take it to an autozone, they will check it for free and tell ya what the problem is.
