she started!!!....but she is eating the timing belt! why?
ok so i think the problem has to do w/the tenisor. i converted to h23 tensior using a part list off here, and my helms manuel. when i put it all together, the timing belt was really tight, but thats how tight the spring was pulling it.
it is eating the timing belt from the top side though. any ideas?\
i have it on video, but you cant see the prob., just smoke, and the files are prob. big.

i bet i know.... there is a big *** washer that goes agains the block... in between the flared part of th shaft that the tensioner goes on, it's a bronzish/gold color, and it's huge.... i forgot to put that thing on before i screwed the shaft in, and it ate my timing belt off
dont drive it.. if it pops u will be getting new valves and a valve job..

yep, you have the washer on wrong, you have it on the outside near the nut, it should be flat against the block like it looks like in my picture. i actually ran into this problem before, just fix the washer problem and you'll be good to go.
damn, thanks guys, at least i know what it is, but how the hell am i supposed to do this w/it in the car!
what a waste of a 180 doller belt!

yep, you've got that big *** washer on the wrong end of the shaft.... i did the same damn thing, ruined the belt, $50 instead of $180, cause i had an OEM..... but yeah, that your problem, take the tensioner off and put the washer how Gude has it pictured, and you will be straight

dont worry, just take the tensioner assembly apart the same way that you put it together the first time. remember, you'll have to remove the driver side motor mount to get the old timing belt off and the new one on. make sure you have a manual handy for the job. if you take your time and dont rush you dont have anything to worry about.
another word of advice, there is a small little bolt that fits into the tensioner assembly to keeps the pulley in position....
its in the red circle. If you ran your car for a while, then im almost 100% sure the oil balancer shaft pulley grinded the little alignment bolt down and it will look like it has a flathead screwdriver mark indention in it. if it does, just sand it down so it will still keep its cylindrical shape. If its bad, go to honda and buy another one, which is what you should do. I made the same mistake but luckily i caught the mistake before i put the motor in my car.
