Default Civic stereo removal....

I have a 1997 Civic EX with an aftermarket Clarion stereo that was in the car when I purchased it, and I am having one HELL of a time getting the stereo out! I have removed the center console, glovebox, dash piece right above the cupholders, and the cupholder assembly to get at it. I have tried removing the entire black instrument panel but I cant dislodge it from the top. Is there any easier way to remove this damn thing?

Is the stereo cage mounted or iso-mounted? And to get the center console out you need to remove the lower panel below it (had the cig/power outlet in it) there are either two or four 8mm bolts that need to be removed then you just need to pull and the whole console will come out. Then you should be able to tell how to get the radio out. Or you could just take it to a shop and have a professional like myself do and not worry your pretty little head. Just a thought though.

If you can't get it from the bottom (screws underneath), it might just be mounted in there using a special bracket. My Pioneer (RIP) came with a bracket that went in before the headunit, and then the headunit slipped in and clips from the bracket held its side. Try taking two pieces of thin metal, kinda like the PCI slot covers in the back of your computer, and then slide them in on the left and right sides of your headunit. If your stereo has the same kind of bracket, then you should hear a click and you will be able to slide the headunit out (while leaving the metal pieces in).

I couldnt find anything small enough to slide in there so I gave up until you just suggested those PCI slot covers. Hopefully I have some around! Let me check...

go to a local car stereo shop and ask if youc an have some kenwood keys....they should remove the radio....if that doesnt get it..take the panel below the steering wheel off and drop the glove box there are 2 tabs on the sides...then you will able to take the center console out there are 6 screws holding it in...the radio might be back strapped in so just check behind it...good luck

if you're a professional tell me why you would iso mount a radio in an EK...use a Metra 99-7891 kit and cage it...
