Default is the guy at jiffy lube right or just clueless?

i went to jiffy lube to change my oil today coz i dont' have time anymore to do it myself. anyway, i normally use mobil 1 synthetic. the jiffy lube i went to had only a couple quarts of mobil 1 left. well this guy told me that you're not supposd to mix different brands of synthetic oil. so once you start using one brand, that you have to use that brand from that point on and nothing else.

i never heard of anything like this before. i've mixed mobil 1 and havoline synthetic before and had no problems. does this make any sense to you?

He is just clueless. As long as each of the oils meet the minimum API requirements and are of the same weight, they can be mixed.

I think he was possibly referring to synthetic and dino oil..

not just different synthetics..

Even then Im not sure the whole dino-->synth theory is true.

My engine has never noticeably burned oil. It now has 40k miles and 3.5k boosted miles. I check my oil level regularly, and have never had to add oil in between changes. I used to change it according to the owner's manual (every 7500). I'm now changing it every 3k miles since I slapped the blower on.

Same here.

Mine sure does burn the hell out of it. I have to check it more frequently than any car I've ever owned.

Damn dude 7.5K would drive me crazy, I'm kinda compulsive about changing my oil. I'm boost-deficient and I change mine every 3k anyway. Maybe because my last 2 cars had engine probs...By the way, is every 3k miles the official recommendation for boosted motors or what? Hopefully I'll need that info one day...

It's just something I decided to start doing since my motor is now under a lot more stress.

Just curious dude. It's like I've heard that figure more than once when talking about boosted motors. I've also heard **** like every 2K miles which to me would be insane, I commute to work.

yeah i still use the 5w-30 but it seems to go through it quicker. i actually had my engine replaced by honda cause it was burning a quart every 700 miles, but the new one burns a little too.....

It's not. Read the back of any Syn oil, it says fully compatible with conventinal oils

Do you guys think that Mobil 1 Synthetic 15w50 would hurt the engine. I recently put it in because a friend of mine told me it would help when drving the car hard. Is it ok, or should i go with something lighter?

heavier oils protect better, but will cause poorer gas milage, not to mention doubling the weight of oil will actually reduce HP by something like 3 percent
