That's VTEC, son.
It's normal that you don't really feel it working, the Vtec cam lobe really isn't very aggressive on the F22B1.

There are people in this forum who make a killing off of ridicule.

Wish some of you had a little more to offer.

agreed. although i admit, ive done my share of flaming.
anyway, about your vtec, like stated above the sohc vtec cant be heard or felt that much like on the dohc motors. a good remedy for this would be to get a cam regrind, or you could always get a vafc and set the vtec higher, that usually makes it a little louder.

The Vtec system is not as noticable on a F22b1 vs. H22A(1)(4). Before my swap to a JDM H22A, I jerry rigged a Vtec light (yes, I was a noob at the time and just getting started in the import scene). The F22b1 vtec engagement was early, I mean very early, like around 3500 rpm's or so vs the 5000 - 5500 rpm's of the H22A.

if im not mistaken, i thought stock f22b1 vtec engagement was higher..? like 5200 i think... when i got my vafc, i set it to 3500 rpm's...

3900 is what I would think would be were it engages on mine... very distinct change in tone.

Course I dont have any lights or vafc to tell me that for sure.

i remember someone confirming it was around 5250 rpms or something... i still disagree with stock f22b1 vtec engagement at 2500 rpms...

there is no way Honda would program the vtec crossover at 2500 rpm in a stock car...NO WAY

The lower the better.

Dont know how hes getting below the 3100 that the VAFC allows.

not necessarily, honda put it where they did to prevent the chance of loping, and chances are their engineers know a little more about their motors than us

don't flame me or anything, because i am not flaming.

Thier goal: Economy
My goal: Power

BTW, I dont think even honda would know what to do with my engine at this point.

I am pretty sure Vtec kicks in at 3500rpm on OBD1 F22B1's.
I do feel a sudden surge of power at 2500 rpm, but that's because my distributor starts firing up cylinder #1 at 2500

i was suprised too seeing the light go on at 2500... but it's no lie.. if you want to test it out yourself, it's simple... just get a light bulb that takes 12volts hook up the positive to the vtec wire where the ECU is and ground the other wire...

before i installed the light i thought it was at 3500 cuz that's when i felt it kick in...

btw: i don't have a vafc, or any kind of vtec controller... just a stock accord ecu before i had FI

hmmm... seems early as faulk... weird how the VAFC doesn't allow one to adjust VTEC that low...

you wont get more power if its lower, jsut more chance of backflow in the system. vtec allows more overlap at higher rpms because there is enough pressure at those speeds for both valves to be open without backflow, engage vtec to early and your **** will hit the fan.

Wrong.

I've shown this before, but here ya go. I know its in excel but I didnt want to print all 40+ of my dyno runs.

This goes for NA too. The earlier vtec engagement allows the higher lift lobe to start working earlier. You delay that and you delay getting your power.

The blue graphs are at 3100 and the yellow are at 4500. I'd much rather get the power sooner. BTW, you see there is no max gain in delaying either, it just goes to where it would have been if you set it earlier.

That "kick" that everyone talks about is from being robbed of power until switching cam lobes.
