toda header and mugen exhaust questions
ok i've had my r for over a year and I am deciding to finally put some money into it (bone stock thusfar) I have decided on a toda header and a full mugen twin loop exhaust. My questions are:
1. How much difference will i feel upon acceleration and at which points?
2. Is a carsound cat necessary for this set up, and if so, will the header, cat, and exhaust fit right together?
thanks

you'll see gains, toda hangs perfect, mugen has a few bottle necks but still a great system...you don't NEED a carsound cat, but you will need a cat with both 2.5" inlet and outlet....

Toda DOES NOT hang low. It has the best clearance out of all the off the shelf headers.
You don't need a carsound cat but it would be a good idea.
I guarentee you will feel power everywhere throughout the power band.

Last time I brought up the whole debate about the mugen exhaust system the general consensus was that although Mugen IS good, and HIGH quality, there are just better things on the market out now. Mugen pioneered with their designs, and never really made any improvements. *shrug*
I'm getting a T1R exhaust, and I'm giddy like a school girl

I am thinking of getting a similar setup except with a 2.5 inch exhast like the new T1R. Besides Carsound is there any other cats that will work with 2.5 inch components like the T1R exhaust and the Toda header for me and goneverything our new Honda-Tech member. Welcome to Honda-Tech bro and i must say you started off by asking a good question unlike other people who first ask if carbon fiber altezzas would look good on there car.
Good luck with your car.
and have fun.

I'm using a Toda Header, SMSP carsound cat and a JDM ITR Kakimoto R 70mm catback..... and a test pipe for track days or dyno sessions
Jamn, you go all this time without spending money on mods for the car, then now you are about to drop almost 2k into it.
My first mod was a $20 carbon fiber ebrake (when i was in my ricer stage). hehe. I have the toda header, and the mugen axleback (civic si) on my b18c5 right now. I love both, not sure it was worth the money, but the quality is outstanding. Toda header hangs perfect, mugen tip is perfect.

correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't the mugen twinloop jdm spec length? if so you will definately need a cat/testpipe to accomodate both. the Toda header is jdm length and if the mugen exhaust is jdm length, the stock cat will be way too long. but that is ONLY if the mugen twinloop is jdm length.
I have the mugen exhaust, and it fits fine using stock header/cat or jdm header/cat...I've always thought that the jdm stock cat is shorter to accomodate the extra length of the jdm header...and that the jdm and usdm b-pipe lengths are the same.
I'm presently on the same boat. Which catalytic converter is available for toda exhaust manifold - mugen twin loop exhaust? DC2 non type R.
I bolted up a Toda header and Hytech exhaust this past spring. My butt's not very sensitive, so my dyno is a little off
Most of the power gains will be after 5700. This biggest difference I noticed is the motor seemed to rev faster from 5700 on. I wanted to dyno before and after to see the gains, but I didn't get around to it

Possibly, but it honestly wouldn't be worth the expense. The JDM cat won't flow tremendously well, so you'd be better off purchasing a custom 2.5" high-flow Car Sound instead. Plus, a correctly made Car Sound will have the O2 bung already in it, which you'd have to get welded into the JDM cat.
Oh, and this thread sure is old.
