Default Brake lines + high end coilovers

I noticed that some higher end coilovers ie. Buddy Club, TEIN, Jic, ETC, do not have mount points for the brake hose. I have seen people zip tie the brake lines to the strut body. Is this safe?

Can you please post pictures of this setup if you have it?

I'd also like to hear and see peoples solutions to this. And thoughts on the safety of using different ways to secure the lines.

Yep, ziptie works fine. If you do it correctly, you won't get any rubbing/chafing on the lines or the coilover.

Actually, I took a SS hoseclamp and put it around the shock body. Then, I put a plastic ziptie in between the hoseclamp/shockbody and wrapped it around the brakeline. No problems whatsoever.

have any of you actually tried attaching the brake line holders to the new shocks? they simply hammer off the stock shocks you know...

and they are obviously the same width at that point since it still fits in the shock fork..

edit: for what it's worth this is how I do it with bilsteins. they don't come with brake line holders so I simply reuse the old ones.. bilsteins actually sends a "tool" for this purpose.. it's just a pipe really (to hammer it back onto the bilsteins)

Pretty sure that you're not going to fit the oem collars on a Tein/BuddyClub/Zeal, etc.

Besides, zipties work perfectly fine.

Zip ties do work fine, it's ghetto but it works. Why wouldn't they fit? The coilovers are NOT wider there or they would not slide into the shock fork.

IMO it's worth trying if you don't want to ziptie your lines. I don't care if you try it or not though.

Pretty sure they fit on my TEIN's AND my Zeals and worked better than zipties.

I always wondered why others never did that or at least tried to figure something out (besides zip-tieing their ****). for trying it (and using that method) Trey.

Trey and I just re-used the factory brake line holders when we (ok mostly him) were installing my Tein HAs. Just hammer them off, and slide back on.

Any the zeal/tein shock fits like it should in the fork? I looked at doing this, but thought that it might not let enough of the body slide into the fork. Some folks remove them from the shocks that have the fittings on them (Koni) and gain more travel that way.

Besides, zipties work perfectly fine. I don't see why folks have issues with them.

Ask Brian what he thinks of ziped tied brake lines.

Going off at 120mph = not fun.

If you zip tie... inspect and change often.

Obviously you don't know anyone who has cut unsecured brakelines and slammed into a wall at 90mph like I do. Personally I'd rather have something "minor" like the brake lines properly secured.

Like I said, do whatever the hell you guys want to do. Zip tie them if you want, or transfer the holders. it really really doesn't matter to me, but they WILL get inspected at expo most likely so those zip ties better be pretty new.

*shrug*

Mine has been fine so far. I use the thick plastic ties and replace them every so often and I have seen no wear on them at all. Then again, I don't daily drive my car.

I let someone else zip tie my brake lines just before a qualifying session last year. The brake line was against the wheel and it started spewing fluid while I was booking down the front straight at Summit Point. I had very little pressure and was going down the runoff road at about 100mph, ebraking, pumping the brake, and downshifting like nuts.

Not fun.

Warren, that's exactly what happened to a friend of mine. The wheelweight on the wheel and the wheel itself cut the line and pressure was lost. car was totalled but the cage did it's job and protected the driver.

TEINs fit perfect. Zeals are loos and admittedly shorter but fit into the fork more than enough to secure them.

has been using zip ties on his ss lines for about a year. No problems so far, and no signs of wear either.

I think its more the inner teflon that wears causing a leak rather than the SS wearing through.
