ok i currently have a stock jdm b16a w/ bolt-ons in my hatch, and like most of us, i need more power. i know building my motor would cost a lot plus that means i have to be running high octane gas. so i'm thinking of getting either a Revhard tubo kit w/ low compression pistons + block guard or sell my b16a and get a b18c5. now this car is going to be my daily driver, so please help me decide. i have about 3 grand to spend. thanks

id go with a b18c5 since its your daily driver..plus youll need more than 3 grand to do a turbo kit

shop around and you can easily do a turbo kit for under 3k. im getting nice quality parts(used, but who cares) and ill be in the low 2k range. but if its your daily driver and want ultimate reliability get the c5.

boost it. If you go custom and shop around you can get it all for under $3k. You should be able to run 6-7psi daily driven without any problems. Also, you would need premium gas regardless of turbo or c5.

Wussup mang! I'd go with the ITR motor.

wassup rod. hows your hatch?
thanks for all that responded, i know a c5 would be really nice, but i have to do that shoping around and have to go through the hassle of selling my current motor.
so i think i'm going turbo... but i still wanna here from other people why i shouldn't boost.
keep the b16 tranny, sell off the block.. if you can happen to find a ITR motor for cheap as a long block...then build a crazy 4.9 ATS..KAZZ diff..ATS gears ITR tranny =P or boost it.. but I think you should try to think of your needs and Cash.. Yes N/A motors do at times destroy themselves but there are possibly more headaches with a Turbo system .. good luck
I think you should do the C5. Since you wont be able to build up the internals AND to a turbo. Plus, you can use your bolt ons from the B16 on the C5.

I had the ATS in my ITR tranny and it was short enough like that alone.
id say go with the b18, if its going to be your daily driver you will apreciate the motor more especially if its your daily driver its more dependable you will be more satisfied then you think.
a year ago i was thinking the same thing
i hated my b16a. i needed more power
i choose boost over the c5 short block (was gonna use my b16a head)
i had a tough time finding a c5 block from a reputable place
but then again i kinda half assed my search
if you want reliablebility go with the c5
Tom will probly be in the 12s soon with a b18c5 and bolt ons (in a stripped cx w/ s;icks )
and still has the honda reliability
i can only hope to be that fast
and my reliabilty went out the window with my t3/t04e
what can i say i like to live on the edge
(the edge of wuss cliff)
cliff notes
get the b18c5 if ya like reliable

LOL, classic. I'd say turbo that beast. The c5 would be more reliable and would probably be cheaper and easier to do, but it wont put down as much as a turbo could. It depends on how serious you are about the game. Sure, you could swap in a c5, slap on the bolt ons, and call it a day... but if you are planning on doing more then just that, a turbo might end up being cheaper and have the potential to put down a lot more power.

b16 is a stronger motor better webbing and better stroke to bore ratio. That is what javier gutierez told me, and he is one of the top engine builders in the U.S. he could have sold me a b18 but talked me into a b16 if you want reliability do the b16. Sure you will lose torque but I would rather have a more reliable engine.
