After months of waiting, I got fed up and Painted my car on my own....Pics inside.
First off I had wrecked the car, and got screwed over. I really fell into a depression for a while because of all of this. It took me quite some time to realise some things. First off, it's just a car. A lot of people, including myself, get too involved and don't see them for what they truly are. Second, I actually use my car. Paint gets chipped off quite a bit, **** I wrecked this bitch twice in one month doing some togue and the second time was just an accident. So why spend so much money on paint that is gauranteed to get fucked? The decision I made was final. No more depression. No more getting screwed over by everyone else. No more giving a flying **** what everyone thinks.
I went to the local O'Reileys parts store and bought my materials. With the help of one of my closest friends, who is studying body work at a local Tech school, we bought the paint. 6 cans of Duplicolor "Medium Grey"(yes that is the actual color name) and 6 cans of clear coat, I set out to paint my car. It's all spraypaint. After my friend spoke with his paint instructor, we were told that in order for the **** to actually shine like a real paint job, we have to use twice as much clear just to be able to wet sand. The way that the clear comes out, it orange peels...garaunteed. So after the snow melts away, I am going to apply a couple more cans of clear and then wet sand to get the shine. I will have better pics up too once the snow is melted.
Enjoy...my $77.xx paint job.

thanks. Let me say to those nay-sayers that are anti rattle can. It can be done! It just takes lots of clearcoat to get it to shine right. I personally am now more happy with my car than I ever had been.
The front end is still fucked up from my accident. The body shop charged me $1200 for the front end to get fixed, and what do you know, the frame is still not straight. I'm going back this week to get it fixed.

for taking matters into your own hands. I understand the feeling of depression from lots and lots of things going wrong with your car. I fell into a 4 or 5 month slump myself...but I said **** it and got back on the ball, fixed all my problems, and today I am a happy man! Good job on the paint, just make it shine a bit more and it will be very very nice.

Few more things to do but the car is looking better.
Was the Duplicolor "Medium Gray" semi gloss or high gloss or just flat paint? Looks good.

Yeah, you are going to have to wet sand the **** out of it to get it to look nice (but you know that)
The cost of a paint job isn't in the materials its in the labor. I just painted mine and the paint cost about $400 (dupont Chroma base and a TON of clear) but i've spent three weeks trying to finish it (its still not done).
I've done this before though so I realize how much work is involved. You just need to take the time to do it.
P.S. You are right that it IS 'just a car' but you are also right that it is very hard to keep that perspective. You need to be very 'karmic' about it all.
thats a pun BTW
