Attn: 99-00 Si Owners
Spesifically those living in SoCal, but this goes for anyone in an urban area w/ lots of traffic. Right now I'm trying to decide between a 99 Ex (auto) or a 99 Si. This is really just going to be an a-b car, as both will most likely remain stock. Two questions for you guys:
1) I just learned to drive stick on my friends old beater VW, and it stalled everytime we came to a stop light in 1st...I'm assuming all cars do this?
2) Keeping #1 in mind, how big of a pain in the *** is driving an Si in traffic?
thanks for your opinions!

Driving any stick car in traffic is pain, but it shouldn't stop you from getting the better car. If you got the Si, if you ever decided to mod it, it would be a lot better of a project than an auto ex. But if you're just gonna use the car as a beater, then get the auto ex.
i would get an auto if you just learned stick, and you are keeping it stock.
and just for the record, cars arn't supposed to stall when you come to a stop in 1st gear. try pushing the clutch in when you stop, seems to work well for me

the mere fact ur here on HT tell s me ur not going to be satisfied driving an auto for very long..remember ur just learning to drive a stick and stalling isnt new to any of us..i bet we all do it now and then still..
my daughter learn d to use a stick a few yrs back..the first couple of days was hell on her , the car and my nerves..finally, she was about ready to give up and i let her have it on her own on a quiet sunday morning...she came home an hr. later with a smile a mile wide
there s nothing wrong with sticks...its the driver..i bet in a few days ull be zipping around with the best of them..
get the Si..u wont regret it

I would get the Si because, learning a manual isn't hard at all! And they're FUN! Get the Si. You'll like that better.

The SI is a decent car.. I have one... One of the biggest turnoffs about owning the SI is the theft factor: these cars get jacked all the time. Seeing that you live in LA, and POS thieves there love Hondas, this could pose a problem for you. I suggest you practice a lot more before shelling out the money for an SI. Good luck..

I own an Si myself, i'm always paranoid of my car getting jacked here in cali... If i were u i would get the Si, and an alarm or something, and always put it inside the garage with dogs that have lazers attached to their heads.
Oh and btw.. it doesnt really bother me driving in traffic with a stick.. unless i'm feeling really tired, then it does bother me.. Yesterday we went to magic mountain, so you can imagin all the walking i did.. after that i had to take a break in the car just to go back home because my legs were soar and i didnt feel like stepping on the clutch in traffic.. even though their wasnt much traffic, i still didnt feel like stepping on clutch to switch gears.
buuuuut, i still suggest the stick, you get the auto and you will regret it
(no offence to those with automatics) just feels like you have no control over your car with one.

i drive in LA traffic and i have 4.7 FD - the 4.4 fd of the SI is a little more relaxing and personally, if everyone is cruising at 10 mph, i don't have to brake...just stay in 1st all day long.
get the SI.
get the SI.
Get and si its not difficult to drive at all the stock clutch is so light you cant even tell its realy there, plus youl like the extra features compared to the ex , from the body, to the motor , to the inside of the car aswell.
the car is fun to own, gets a lot of looks and a lot of riceby;s and a lot of theives are also interested in the car... thats really what worries me more than it being a problem to drive ,
