Has anyone had any problems since lowering their cars?
I am a proud owner of a 98 honda prelude. The only mods i had done to the car was a 1.5 inch drop lower than stock and an intake.I have noticed some results from the intake at wot but the lower end torque has dropped slightly.I had also noticed some slight dificulty when trying to get into first gear.I have trouble getting into first gear some times. I dont know if it is my driving or its because i had lowered my car.If anyone knows what this may be please post! Peace out!!
When you say your having problems getting into first gear, what is it doing? Is it jsut had to push it in? if it is, i have the same problem. sometimes the synchros have a hard time lining up. Try putting it in reverse, then back in first when you have the problem...works for me. As for the lowering, the only problems Ive had on my 99 lude, is the fact that the camber is WAY out, it rides like crap, and it causes early problems with tires, ball joints, and axle wear. do yourself a favor, and buy a camber kit, have it alligned properly, and if you havnt already, make sure that you have a GOOD set of aftermarlet shocks.
problems directly related to the car being lowered:
punctured oil pan and excessive tire wear
punctured oil pan and excessive tire wear
The 1.5" drop that the original poster has is a very manageable ride height for daily driving. I've got a 2" drop all around and I have only bottomed out once or twice(and both times could ahve been avoided)
Honda trannies just don't like going into first gear sometimes. It has nothing to do with your suspension. Like the other guy said, put it in reverse and then try putting it into 1st again.
or sometimes i throw it into 2nd and back into first. I'm thinking of changing the tranny fluid and seeing if that won't help smooth it back out. got the car used with 52000 and have no clue how the previous owner drove it and figured it couldn't hurt
The only problem I had with lowering my car was bottoming out a couple of times. Tranny problems are not related to lowering your car. My car has trouble getting into first gear sometimes also but it has nothing to do with the suspension.
if you have a hard time putting it in second chances are pretty soon you are going to have a problem with 1st second and reverse at one time or another. i just tore my tranny apart because my 5th gear was gone and it was tough to put it in first at times, reverse at others and second when racing, this is do to a worn synchro brass, i am running an h23 tranny with my h22 and the synchro costs $374 from honda, if you have the hookups (free for me lol) and you can pull the tranny yourself, you now know the reason for your trouble.
