Default Painting valve cover

Yo. My valve cover black paint is fading, so i feel like sanding it off and spray painting the bare metal. Will this look good? How should i do it? And is there a way to cover the DOHC VTEC letters so they can be another color? Im thinkin yellow cover with black DOHC VTEC H letters. help me

Yo.Dont waste your time sanding it down. Get a bucket big enough for the valve cover and put some Muriatic Acid in it.Leave it there for 24hrs. then voila no more valve cover..

Yo. For the way you want it to turn out, may I suggest that you first take the valve cover off, get a steel brush and some brake cleaner...scrub as much crap off (you really don't need to have it bare metal), let dry, get some black spray and spray the letters, let dry really well, tape over the letters with masking tape, or if you're sure its super dry, put vasoline on the letters, spray the cover with yellow...let dry real well, and then slowly peel/remove the tape/vasoline....phew..there ya go.
cheers

All you need is Aircraft Remover from Walmart and it will strip anything that is on that valve cover.

I agree. It will save you the time and hassle of sanding off the factory paint. If you don't want to paint the letters, coat them with Vaseline, so the overspray won't stick.

I didnt mean sand like ya know...sand paper. I meant one of those sand blowers that shops use to get parts clean. That thing works miracles, ill have the paint off in 5 minutes.I was wondering how the bare metal spray paint look works, anybody out there done it/seen it?

wow im suprised no one said to use "aircraft remover" takes about 10 mins for the paint to come off

as for the vasoline its really messy so have fun.. best thing to do is either paint it along with the valve cover and scrap it back off and use a paint pen for the 2nd color or tape it up and repaint it ..

good luck

I'm planning to paint mine a semi-gloss gold.

Any suggestions for what brand or style of paint to use?

Thanks.

What ever you use dont use Plastikote, even the engine paint, it doenst stick well (the wrinkle paint does if heated). I had good use with VHT, but they don't make a lot of colors...

i used aircraft siding remover to remove the old paint. then sprayed it with heat paint but the paint i used ended up being transparent. then sanded with sand paper over the letters to make them sliver again
