No more US made Honda Oil Filters?
I went to a couple dealers around the Bay Area, but none had the US made Honda oil filters. The only ones that they sell is the "Made in Canada" filters. I heard that the ones in Canada are made by fram and are crap while the ones made in the US are better quality. Are the dealers only selling the "made in canada" filters now? Where can I find one made in the US?

I made the mistake of buying 5 of the "made in Canada" ones from the Honda dealer while they were on special... ended up just giving them away to my friend... I just ordered 5 of the small Hamp ones from jdmspecperf.com which should hopefully be arriving on Thursday. Anyways, the part # for the "made in Canada" filter is 15400-PT7-005, and the part # for the "made in USA" filter is 15400-P0H-305... maybe you can call around and ask for those part #'s?
Hmmm...well I guess that could explain why my last Honda filter caused valvetrain noise upon first startup in the morning (faulty bypass valves...what Frams are famous for!
). The valvetrain noise completely went away with my current filter (another Honda OEM), but the new one I got for next time says "made in Canada", so we'll see....

Do you guys know where I can find a "made in US" filter here in the bay area or anywhere online?

Any Champion made filter of the following: Champion Labs, Mobil 1, K&N, Bosch, STP, and other filters. Champion makes those brand filters. And any of those filter models are pretty good with some better than others.
Also the Purolator Pure One is also good. It filters out quite a bit of impurities. And Fram Tough Guard filters are better than their regular and Double Guard filters.

I have one of the Canadian ones, unfortuanately have used them since the dealers switched. Are they really made by Fram? Mine say "Honeywell" on them. Any ideas? If they are really crap, I'll just switch to Wix or the Napa gold.

Well, I just answered my own question...I went to the Fram website and look what I pulled up...
Headquartered in Danbury, Conn., FRAM® is a unit of Honeywell Consumer Products Group, which manufactures and markets FRAM oil, air, transmission and fuel filters; Prestone® antifreeze/coolant and car care products; Autolite® spark plugs and ignition wire sets; and Holts® car care products.
So now I know what the Honeywell on my oil filter really means. I think I will call up a dealer and bitch them out.

Here's a thought...in hunting around online, I notice that there is a filter for the Accord made my Denso...now the two stock spark plugs listed for my Accord in the owner's manual are the NGK and the Nippon Denso.
So maybe the Denso's would be worth checking out?
Any thought's people?

I just went to my dealer and had him swap the canadian Honeywell filter for the American made Filtech one. The shop manager was surprised to learn that the one I gave back to him was made by Fram/Honeywell. But..he assured me that both the Honeywell and Filtech filters had to be exactly the same inside or Honda wouldn't use them. He said that Honda's specs for their filters are very stringent. He also said that those filters come in in batches, he can get both at once or a whole lot of one at a specific time. He said he couldn't guarantee that he would always have the Filtech ones on hand when I wanted.
So it does bring up the question...does anyone know of any documnted problems with the Canadian made Honeywell/Fram filters?? Or is it just a general leeryness of anything made by the Fram company?

Ahh America Jr.. I mean Canada..I wonder if this has anything to do with the filters being made cheaper in Canada than the US, though I dont see why they are not made in Mexico then... companies generally manufacture where they can get the cheapest labor so that they can have competitive prices, and above all prices that the consumers are willing to pay.
I honestly didnt know that there was a difference in oil filters, how sheltered Ive been, I always figured an oil filter was an oil filter.. dont bash me on that, now I know.
