Actually, the GSR crank is lighter. By about 4lbs.
The counterweights on the ITR crank make it better in the upper RPMS and balance out the lighter pistons, but add weight.

my fine feather friend can you still give those pointers that Steve gave you about the diff. btwn the two cranks. I cant tell just by looking at the pics...sorry still learning

I thought that the GSR pistons were actually lighter than the R's.
Only based on the displacement of them..
Only based on the displacement of them..
i would think they are. but whats the relevance, we are talking about crank weight

but yeah, the gsr pistons are lighter

sorry, misseed that one.

(or "not yet")
So let me get this straight:
Type R Pistons Weight < GSR Piston Weight
Type R Crank Counterbalance > GSR Counter balance
So basically, it seems like what your saying is that Honda is chasing it's tail?
Granted dynamically speaking the larger circumference of the rotating piston mass should require a greater mass is a smaller circle at the crank. But, are the GS-R's really that far out of balance?
*This is all interesting as I have a spare Type R crank sitting up stairs, and I am trying to decide what to do with it.
But this also dispels the notion that both cranks are equal, due to the photos

Where did you get the poster in the background? I want one
They pop up on Ebay every once and a while.

Blake: GS-R pistons and crank are lighter than ITR pistons and crank.
in relevance to the poster...I got mine from the dealer back when I bought my car a few years ago. It was hanging in the salesman's office and I wanted one but they were already supposedly discontinued, so he ripped it off the wall and gave it to me
isnt it true that the crankshafts must be placed standing, rather that laying down, due to the fact that the crank is acutally brittle and can warp if laying down. A mechanic told me this once before
