i was wondering if anybody here has tried painting thier car flat black using spray paint. i think it would be a cool thing to do with a CRX or something and its deffinatly cheap. i know thats what SCC did with thier project silvia and i was wondering if anyboy has tried it. how did it turn out? any problems with the paint? got pics? thanks.
I've painted my friends hatch with primer then the replica paint from the Spray can and it came out better then doing it with a gun, because it didn't have orange peel and it was quick too do..
that would be a cool thing to try tho

There is a guy on this board with a rattle can flat black paint job on a 5th gen hatchback. It's hardcore, no ******* glossy $3000 paint jobs to fawk up. I'll try and find the pic.
if you're gonna do it, use a random pattern of spraying, don't try to do it like you are a professional car painter. SCC did their s13 silvia like that and it looks fantastic.
you should use a fan nozzle can. I say get some BBQ paint by Char Broil. It's flat black, withstands everything, sprays out smooth with the fan nozzle, and should last for longer than most other paint jobs. I used this on many parts including valve cover, heat shield, intake tubing, and misc stuff here and there. It dries smooth and I can't even scratch it with my fingernail...unlike most spray cans.
And the guy above...I doubt the paint job was anywhere NEAR to the quality of a professional job with a spray gun. It's impossible and the replica paint sucks and rattle can primer is pointless

at home depot, paint area, get the wide angle spray tips, like a packet of 10-20, they work great with the spray cans, it shoots a wide/flat spray angle, like a gun, much better than regular tips(small round) shots. Some brands of spray paint/primer come with the wide angle tips already(usually blue tips), but the 88 cent cans usually don't. Only way you won't have lines, when using a can is with the wide tips.

Focus on one panel at a time. This way you can have stopping points.

you can, or you can mask. Just be consistant. If you stop at "X" spot on the fender...make sure you don't stop there again on the next coat. Put the coats on even. With flat black...it should dry even enough to no be noticable. Use good paint. I wouldn't use Krylon spray paint.
Use BBQ paint Like I said....you'll be pleased with the durability and texture

And get one of those little spray handles(have not a clue what there called) so you dont wear out your finger. Once they get tired paint application will start to get bad.
I did my old 5th gen hatchback with a paint roller and flat black house primer... came out sweet, and I think a few of you are thinking of my car as the one that was done with rattle cans... it looked tough as **** and I got a whole shitload of compliments...
