Default transmission problem - can't get into 1st

this has happend a couple times now, the most recent was last night. what happens is, when i'm at a red light, i'll sometimes put my car into neutral (so i can let my foot off the clutch).. and then when the light turns green, i'll go to put it into first, but for some reason it won't go in all the way. it goes in a little, but i can tell that its not in all the way. i tried putting it into second, then back to first (to try and make it go in).. that doenst work. then i tried reverse then first, and that didn't work either. so i basically got owned by my transmission. starting from a stop in 2nd gear isnt pretty at all. somehow i finally managed to get my car into first last night after sitting at the green light like an assclown for a couple minutes.. i thought i fucked up my clutch/transmission becuz at first it bogged a lot (not exactly sure what happend) but then after like 5 minutes everything seemed fine. what exactly is wrong with my car? why cant i get into first sometimes (after sitting in neutral and with the clutch out)?? how can this be fixed?

i had the same problem with my old car 1991 honda crx si, when i try to put it in the gear or shift, it would just locked up and not go into gear, i would have to sometimes slam it in, the reason why is because my syncronizer's rings were going bad, check your syncronizer rings , that might be the problem?
it can be fix, just take it in a shop and they can replace new ones, but i heard they are expensive

it could be your syncros, but it could also be something as simple as your tranny fluid...

I agree gotta be the manual transmission fluid. I had the same prob happen to me on my 00 teg. At some stop lights it would pop right in and at some i had to turn the steering wheel to get it to go in. After changing my MTF that problem just dissappeared.

syncros in first gear? i kind of find that hard to beleive (but then again i dont know all that much about syncros or transmissions). i was hoping it would be something as simple as my tranny fluid.. if having low tranny fluid could cause that. any other ideas?

Sounds Like a syncros problem, Get a type R tranmission with LSD. That's what I recommend, it's cheaper then to fix your current one.

Not really, anyhow It probably is your tranny fluid, and when you try to go into first are you pressing the clutch all the way in. Also is your car a cable or hydrolic tranny, if its hydrolic you might want to check the hydrolic line connection from the MTF resevior to the tranny for leakage, that happened to a friend of mine.

as i said earlier, i would kind of doubt that the syncros in first gear would be worn out, since its not like i downshift into first like i do in other gears, and also especially since i only have 45k miles on my car (1999 gsr). anyway, i'll check the tranny fluid.

every b series equiped honda i've driven does this occaisionally.

i find that if i put the clutch in, heel toe to give the throttle a blip, and push the lever while doing this, the gear will slot in...

my old corolla used to do it too. i don't think it is anything to worry about.
