Question About Shocks
Hello,
I currently have H&R Race springs in my GSR and was thinking about getting shocks for the summer. I just want to get a stiffer ride.
My question is this:
1) Any recommendations?
2) If I get any type of shock (Adjustable / Non-adjustable), will the car lower a little bit?
Regards,
Steve

But whats the difference between the koni reds and koni yellows? I though that the main difference was the fact that the yellows were adjustable and the reds were not.
I really dont need to go my car any lower. I just want to siffen up the ride.

unless you really do some dramatic things on your car or travel long distances often, then its not worth it to get adjustanbles...they are good for auto cross and so forth and for setting to the low setting when driving cross country.
check my sig
Thanks for the tip!
So if I dont care if the car gets any lower (I dont want it to), I dont need to get adjustables. My main reason for wanting shocks is to stiffen up the ride....

yea, they wont lower the car anymore. If anything, depending on how worn out your previous shocks were, they *might* raise the car a tiny bit from being stiffer and not sagging.
Can you not adjust ride height up to .5" in either direction with the konis? Yes.
The main purpose of adjustability is to be able to adjust the stiffness of the shock, which konis do amazingly, and can offer a nice comfy ride if you like, or a a very stiff ride for those autox days. Those KYB's will probably blow on your H&R race, and they are not nearly as good as the konis. Koni really is the way to go.

Whatever you do dont get kyb's they =
boo, get koni yellows if you can, and yes some shocks do lower your car, but stop being alittle girl drop that **** hehe, if it does lower your car it would be a big difference anyway.

I've had KYB AGX 4 Way Adjustables and Tokico blues both in a CRX. The Tokico's offered a much smoother ride, and better handling, so I'd go with them. KYB's just bounce too much for me...
I have HR Sports on my LS. It cost me 5 bills for the Koni Yellows and I have never regret it at all. In fact, I'm tossing out my Sports in favor of some GC coilovers. I know I'm gonna need that adjustability even more so than now!

no no we're talking about shocks with adjustable damping, not adjustable height (although the Koni Sport yellow shocks do have limited height adjustment built in).
I recommend Koni Yellows for your Neuspeed race springs since they are really low and stiff... I had Koni Yelllows for over 3 years and along w/ my Eibach Sportlines they handled like a dream (although my ex gf said the ride was harsh and she hated it.. car was like it was on rails
)
also I think a lot of you guys are misunderstanding the whole "adjustability" issue... yes you can adjust the spring perch (when off the car..its not like coilovers) from either the stock height/perch setting or lower (or for the back..either lower or raise it about 15mm)... but the adjustability is the damping.... w/ the yellows it comes w/ a **** that you insert in the top of the shock rod and you can turn it towards or away from firm to whatever firmness/damping you desire....
all in all I loved every moment of the 3+ years w/ my Koni Yellow and Eibach setup...

Nice ride Steve. I love the way your car looks. Super clean and simple.
I got the same problem too, I got H&R race on mine but im still debating what kind of struts to get for my teg.
A few people have recommended Koni Reds as well. So whats the main difference between the two? Reds and Yellows other than the adjustability of the Yellows? Arent reds adjustable as well??

XenonDepot: damn if my car was that low I don't think I'd be able to park in the garage (wouldn't clear the driveway)...
anyway.. the reds are adjustable (damping) but it has to be done while unassembled/off the car.. I think the procedure was something like pushing in the shock rod/piston all the way and turning it... the yellows comes w/ a **** that you can insert on the top of the shock (while on the car) there is a little slit for you to insert the **** and you can turn it either towards (or away from) firm.. whichever setting you want.. you can do this while the yellows are on the car/fully assembled w/ springs and the car on the ground, etc...

i'm pretty sure koni reds are basically just for replacing stock struts. they're not really performance oriented and they're not just non-adjustable koni yellows.
DAMN XENON, and you say that picture is just race springs on stock struts? That looks Very low, I love it
How long have you had the springs on? My race springs have been on for about 3 weeks and are settling a little I believe. O yea, I'm running GR-2's and have nothing wrong with them. Used them on my last car w/ sports and it ran great too. For $200 it was too hard to pass up

Thanks for the compliments.
I've had the springs in my car for 2 years. I had an appointment to bring the car in to get lowered before I even picked it up from the dealership - hehe

You must have cut a few coils on those H&R's. I have the same springs and I'm not dumped that low! By the way, go with the koni yellows. These struts were designed and engineered to optimize the performance with H&R/Neuspeed Race springs. The struts are built to handle the specific spring rates of these specific springs. I have done tons of research!
