Integra Theft in Norcal(Bay Area)
I'm going off to college in less than a year, either in SAC/DAVIS area or SF/415 area and I'm wondering if theft is really that bad.. I'm considering selling my 97GSR now and getting a "normal" car or a truck just so I won't have to worry about my car getting messed w/ while I'm in school.. I would sell it now b/c I have the perfect opportunity to... I haven't invested that much into my car, probably like $1.5K for rotas, suspension, bolt ons... so my big Q is, is Integra theft that bad in sac and frisco, or is it overplayed? Will my simple GSR get jacked or am I just trippin...
it just depends...in sac and s.f. there is usually car theft's happening. if you don't want to worry about getting your car stolen, i'd recommend you selling it and getting a "normal" car. acura's and honda's are more prone to being stolen than other cars. i can't guarantee that your car will now get stolen or anything, you can try to prevent that by buying an alarm, club, autolock, insurance, etc... it is really up to you.
well in the 916 and the 415...chances of your "normal" gizzer gettin stolen is preety good...i wouldnt sell it tho..just take extra saftey percautions...its all on you..but i live in union city..and i know *****s in the 916 and the 415 that JACK and ive know *****s that have gotten JACKED
I lived in SF all my life (28 years)and I can tell you, if you don't want to roll the dice everytime you leave your Teg alone then its best to sell it and get something lesser of a target. I'm assuming if you are going to school in the area you will be parking it in the school lot. Your car will catch too much attention and because it is such a routine for it to be there everyday, the chances for it to be stolen is high. IMO get a "normal" car so you don't have to worry about it being there when class let out. Also when you are away from school, you will need to put it in the garage. However having a nice Teg is definitely a plus for picking up college chicks.
I graduated from the UC Davis in 2001 so here's my take on theft:
*One of my first weekends up in Davis, 8 Acura Integra's were stolen in one weekend alone.
*An Integra parked right next to mine in my apartment complex was left on cinder blocks after the stock wheels were jacked. I've seen a few of these scenes during my stay.
*Personally, someone jacked my OEM Type R badges off my Integra in front of my apartment complex.
So it's really up to you if you want to keep your car or sell it - I drive a '98 GSR and other than having my badges pryed off, my car was fine. I haven't been back in a couple years so I'm not sure how the scene out in Davis is nowadays.

It's not bad at all...until it happens to YOU! To me, it was a worse feeling than being in an accident. But, what'cha gonna do, can't live life scared and worried all the time. Enjoy it while you have it.

Damn, I guess I wasn't just being paranoid about my car after all..
W/in the last 6 months,
1)Shitty Enkei wheels stolen off my old friends Neon, left on milk crates.(sac state)
2)Sister's Roomate's Boyfriends riced out 2k Civic gets jacked from private, secluded *** apartment complex in Davis.
3)Family Friend's daughter's completely stock 92 Civic DX stolen.. recovered.. stolen again 3 days later and stripped..(sac state)
4)Friend's 95 Integra GS broken into and ignition fcked but car wasn't stolen.(sac state)
I thought these were just coincidental but I guess the theft is consistent in these areas.. fuggit, looks like the GSR will be on the market soon.
Thanks guys.

I'm currently a senior at UC Davis and I also drive an Integra. I think car theft was worse during my freshmen year, but has gotten somewhat better. I don't hear of as many stolen vehicles as before.
However, Davis is a college town and a lot of thieves from surrounding areas like to prey on college kids. My best advice is to invest in a good alarm system and try to find a house that has a garage.
In general Davis, is a very safe town, where more bikes are stolen each year than vehicles.
Lastly, I grew up in San Francisco and I get paranoid everytime I bring my car home. Car theft has gotten bad in the City over the last 5 years. If I were you I'd keep the car and make sure to layer your security system.

I should have my car up here within a few months (after I get new tires and valve adjustment). I school at Cal. Should I worry about theft as well? I've seen a quite a few tegs around here, and it doesn't look like there's much attention to theft here, but just to be precautious. Anyone have any good/bad experiences in the Berkeley area?
Well I believe toyota camry is the number one stolen car.
Dang, that is crazy in Cali- glad I live in a farm field in ohio. Thieves are too lazy to deal with the 15 degree weather here to steal a car.

My friend got her car stolen out in front of her apartments near SF State just recently. My friend's SS Blue GSR was stolen from in front of his house in Daly City. Another friend went to a car meet in Milpitas and found his driver's side lock jacked up. I've come back from the mall to find scratches near my trunk lock at Serramonte.
So to answer your question, yes, unless you have a garage, you risk getting your car stolen. But that can be said out here in the Dallas area as well. If you're really worried, either garage the Teg and get a cheapo beater for school or sell it.

i say keep it...make sure u get a place with a garage!!!
and it sounds like u better invest in a good alarm, the club, autolock, luglocks, fuel cutoff switch...and whatever else you may think off
i remember my trip to Bay area 2 years ago....riding the trolley...looking down at cars...
OH YEA...u better believe i saw the "club" on quite a few!!

cheap insurance:
-autolock
-club
-alarm with "pins" hooked up on all opening location w/ battery back-up and extra siren.
-alarm pager. DEI now makes some excellent new pager/alarm systems for around $350 with a lifetime warranty.
-2 sets of wheel locks, one oem, one aftermarket.

I wouldn't sell it, man! It's a 97 GSR with a lot life in it still. I would do what I can and take whatever necessary precautions to keep it mine. Wheel locks, better alarm, autolock, club, kill switches, hood locks, wheel immobilizers, lojack if you want, or just take out the ecu/fuses etc whenever you leave.
try to live in davis, park your car in the garage or complex, keep you defenses up, and take the bus to campus. it's free for students.

theft is bad... but you shouldnt let it bother you so much that youll get rid of your car and get a "normal" car. just get a good alarm system, kill switch, autoloc, and club... you should be cool. if it gets stolen, then its probably cuz the thief was a fricken magician or he has a tow truck hookup.
im a 2nd year at UC Davis..and im from Sac...i drive a '01 GS-R and so far i havent experienced any problems with people messing with my car...it looks pretty much stock though....My friend just recently got his VTEC badge jacked off of his GS-R so i guess there are always people around who got nothing better to do than mess with people's ish...overally i think Davis is pretty low key when it comes to theft, in my experience, but theres always shady ***** that got nothin better to do
o yah..i forgot..i got my fuggin bike jacked the first week of my first quarter during my freshman year...so i take that back..there are thiefs...but yah, i think bikes are probably stolen alot more than cars..but i dunno...
i'm a 2nd yr at davis too, there are lots of cops here, one time some theives got caught outside my apt. Sometimes the cops come in the parking lots. but overall its too close to SAC, and a lot of peps from SAC come to Davis, cuz they know school people parents buy them cars.
yea..lot of cops in Davis...kinda weird how just driving to campus from my apartment ill see atleast 4 cops...i still dont really feel safe though, since theyre always just chillen at a gas station drinking coffee and grubbin on home run pies..
there are some areas in Davis that have lot of dumbass drunk fools always running around starting stuff, im just glad my apt isnt in one of those places.
