"Unbreakable" Autolock
Has anyone seen the infomercials on this? As I am trying to put together the protection package for my R, I am thinking of getting one of these as well. The idea seems pretty convincing, you put this thing on the clutch, which is made of steel, and without the clutch being pressed, the car cannot be started. Now, maybe even this thing is somewhat defeatable, but probably very hard to do.
I have one too. Its good to have as an extra detterent when you park in questionable places. It won't stop anyone from breaking in, but it gives your car another shot of being there when you come back. Careful with it though or else you'll end up scratching your clutch pedal.
Putting it under the clutch pedal makes it harder to start the car.
Not saying that they still don't have a chance at getting it, but the more time a theif has to put into a car the less likely he'll persist.

I went to a gun store with my bro (he's a sheriff) and I saw this cool thing that goes on your car's steering wheel, looks kinda like the club, but it's juiced, so if you touch the wheel and try to steal it, you get zapped. No idea on how to disarm it but there must be a way. Id love to have one of those.

Avoiding theft by tow truck would be difficult. Parking in hard to reach (for the tow truck) spots would be about the only defense. Maybe an alarm w/ a pager.
i had the club, autolock, alarm, lojack and parked on the fourth floor of a semi-private garage with a security guard. The car was STOLEN ! Nothing will stop a thief, only slow them down. And the car was NOT towed. It was driven away. I now know how they did and have taken action for future thefts, but even my new security can be defeated, like all others.

If you put it on your brake they will start your car and drive off. They won't be able to use the brakes, but I'm sure till they get it to their striping garage they won't have any problem using your emergency brake. Get use to puting it on the clutch. I've found that tilted slightly left and parallel to the floor works best for me. Plus they cant start the car. Although I understand that if they put it in first and push in with another vehicle it will start up, but this is a lot more work but your car is worth it
Hope this helps you guys out.

davidnyc: Did you ever get your car back?? If you did, did the car theif leave the club/autolock behind when you get the car back? What was the condition of the club/autolock after the car was stolen?
TypeRP,
Yes, its actually relatively easy to put it on the clutch pedal. You just need some practice. It easier if you have your door open and you can see how it goes on. I also found that pressing on the pedal about a 1/2 inch down will allow it to slide over the bar a little easier.

TypeRP,
I was lucky to get the car back, and the thieves didn't leave the autolock in the car. When the car was stolen the autolock was on the clutch, but it doesn't matter what pedal the autolock is on, it will only slow them down for a few seconds to a few minutes. I could tell from the condition of my interior after the theft that they knew exactly what to do and it only took about a minute or so (if that long!) to get the autolock off of the pedal. The ONLY advantage of the autolock is that they pay for your deductible (except in New York State). All of these devices are only good for parking on the street for a few hours, in the mall for a few hours, etc. These devices will NOT protect your car overnight or any long extended period of time, especially if the thieves know where you park your car.

Maybe they picked the lock on the autolock. Otherwise they will have to disconnect the clutch pedal to remove the autolock and then put it back on to drive the car. I don't see how they can "cut" the autolock or clutch arm as they would with a steering wheel lock. At least you got the car back. I really have to go and dig up the Rhino wheel hub lock like they one they use on your car if don't pay for your parking tickets.
All I have to say is that any intelligent thief will be able to bypass the clutch switch, I wont get into this further but a 6 year old could figure out how to complete a circuit. Shifting would be a diff. story, but it can be done clutchless. As for brake pedal mounting, the handbrake is always an option for the determined thief.
So where to mount it? On the brake and they can start the car with no brakes, on the clutch and they can start the car and cant shift with the clutch. The mounting location is up to you. All I can say is dont rely on any one security device as your sole line of defense, invest in layered security, it works. Just like any other device, the autolock by itself will not prevent your car from getting stolen, but it is good as an extra layer for thieves to attempt to bypass while you are alerted by your other security measures.

This might be a strange question, but is it possible to mount it on the accelerator pedal? How about 2 autolocks...one on the brake pedal and one on the clutch pedal...with a club (or two) on the steering wheel and a shift lever lock.
Aren't they releasing a new type of security device to the public that will lock around your wheels? Similar to the boot that local authorities use now, but more convenient for the consumer to use.
As for the Auto Taser (the club that has an electric charge), it can be easily defeated with a heavy gauge wire. Just ground it to the frame and viola!

Hey,
I'd rather not have the car stolen in the first place, if it gets stolen I hope they totally demolishes it so I can get a new one!!! Don't want it back all screwed up and have to fix it, besides there will be certain imperfections after fixing it!! what do you guys think??

Word on the street is that they use a body shop dent-puller to rip the lock out of the autolock, ditto for the club. As ITR thieves try and preserve the leather wrapped steering wheel, since the airbag from '92-'95 Civics fits in it.

That's why you go and buy one and leave it at the storage. And when you car is stolen, you can demand the insurance to buy your car (the only new ITR owner) for $30k since there are no ITR available anywhere . See, I just made you some money... hehe

Anyone here have a siren installed inside your car? I've heard that its impossible to work under that kinda noise, unless they have earplugs... I wonder if that'll slow them down...
I was considering getting an autolock, but after reading this post, dunno if its worth the hassle, if its not gonna slow them down that much
