Default power fuse question...

my sisters car has a 12' mtx 400watt sub and 2 kenwood amps (not sure of model) the power fueses are 25 and 30 omps or something like that . the 30 is for the subs amp. if i replace the 30 omp with a 40 will anything happen? will it let me turn up the power output more? right now im using about 1/2 of the amp. instead of 400 its letting out 200 watts. will putting a 40 omp fuse enable me to turn it on full blast?

No it won't change anything you'll just be risking letting more voltage into your amp than required.

rave n race,

No you won't change a thing. All the fuse does it make sure you don't draw more power then your car can handle. If you are lucky and you hit exactly 200 watts it is only 16amps and remember that is peak. Now if you are running that system at full capacity you should be lucky to hit 24amps. You should be able to crank the gain on your sub amp and still not blow the 30amp fuse. (that is the way it is designed) Now your speakers on the other hand. You don't want to blow thoes. Even though the speakers can handle 400 watts doesn't mean that they sound good when the amp is turned all the way up. Basicly the fuse is there to make sure if you short something out, the amp doesn't blow up. The fuse will go first (which is more desirable) I would say keep the fuses at the factory spec. It is safer for the amps and your car. Remember amperage is the amount of current the amp wants to use. If it wants to use more then what it is designed to do then something is wrong. Which in turn blows the fuse, not the amp.

It's not normal unless you have a problem with the amp or the installation.

Is the MTX sub a dual-voice coil sub? If so, how do you have it wired to the amp?

For example, a dual 4-ohm voice coil sub wired in parallel to the bridged output of a 2-channel Kenwood amp will cause it to overheat and eventually go in protection mode or blow its fuse. Kenwood 2-channel amps are not designed to handle a 2-ohm load in bridged mode.

If the sub is a single voice coil type and you have the amp bridged, you should be fine.

How is the amp wired to the battery? 4 gauge from the battery to a distribution block or are you using 8 gauge? Also, your main power wire might have a small short in it. Do a continuity test with a volt-meter to see if you have a short.

im not sure about dual or single voice amp part, but the way that its connected to the battery is that the neg (-) is on cars frame and pos (+) is to battery or vice versa. is that any help?
