think this way to lower sound and decrease the loudness, you must restrict the air flow..

thats why open headers are so loud... so answer is yeah they do restrict airflow. thats what they are meant to do. ever wonder why your stock exhaust is just so quiet??? the air is all restricted.. you have to find a happy middle.. with sound, restriction and air flow

 

Yes it does restict flow but you need some restriction, if you dont have any you will lose a lot of low end to mid range power.
