Potential problem w/ cracks in oil pan?
My mugen header is coming in next week so I was breaking the torque of most of the nuts today when I noticed cracks in my oil pan. I'm reasonably sure this is the first time I've noticed them. There is no oil seeping through the cracks, just the cracks that can be seen in the pics.
Car info:
-98 base prelude w/43,xxx miles.
-full suspension (1 inch lowered) spings 50% stiffer than stock rates.
-CAI
-Mugen cat back.
So is this a problem? Could these crack be the affects of a stiff suspension(that probably doesn't makes sense cus it would be likely that stress cracks would form in the chassis.)
Confused

Sorry about the image size I can downsize if need be.

HOly **** doode.. I dont think lowering it caused it to be like that. You probably Hit a Big A$$ rock or something, Comet size pot hole.
Mine is a 97 and it dont look like that. I think you should replace it before it falls aparts. good luck

yeah, you need to get a new pan, that is gonna cause problems.... IMO a Moroso pan will do you some good, the way they are made, the oil is always where the pickup is, so, with you being an avid auto-xer (or claim to be anyways
) then the Moroso pan and pickup would be a great investment... heres a hint, if you get the Moroso, get an oil pan gasket for a 4th gen, since 5th gens don't use a gasket ( i had major oil leakage b/c i only used hondabond)
you could always fix that pan the redneck way..... JB WELD!!!!

Update: As I said I'm busting the torque on all the header nuts. I got a socket extension to break the torque on the nuts that attaches the a-pipe to the header. Man those were on good, I used a breaker bar to loosen them, once you hear the torque pop its one of the greatest feelings in the world.
So I went to Honda as I was getting the extension, and asked them if they could take a look at the pan. They said the pan was cast aluminum and that the cast was cracked not the actual mold. And that there's no concern.

man you guys over react, those marks you see and claim to be "cracks" are not "cracks" at all, they are casting marks. when i got my 98h22a4 for my car i noticed the "cracks" also. they are completely normal and are formed when the alum oil pan is cast in its mold. i know my old h23 didn't have any marks on it because it was a pressed steel piece, i assume this is the way it was with all older h22's also. if you examine them closer you will realize that they are atually RAISED this is not a common aspect of a "crack", if they still bother you, you could always take a piece of sand paper and sand them down, then it will look like the rest of the oil pan and all will be good.

Papa_smurf is right exactly what honda said.
Well all torque for all the nuts are broken so installation of Mugen will and should be a breeze. Pics of Mugen on Wednesday probably.
