How long do you wait til you lay down the vtec?
How long do you guys wait before you lay it down and by that i mean hit the secondaries. Cause i find that i takes awhile once i start m car for me to feel them. I'm thinking lack of warm up, so how long do you guys wait? Thanks
5 - 10 minutes after the water temperature is to its warmed up position.
About 2 years ago, on a cold winter day, I had to get on it too early to avoid an accident. What a nasty sound. Instead of hearing the anxious high revving note of the motor, I heard a distinctly raspy metallic sound. I've only done that once, and never again.

i always wait til she's warm too!!
i kick myself in the *** when i have to get on it when its cold.....
i usually stay below 3000rpm, since the cold is really cold here in S. Dakota
never up to 4000 tho....thats just cause its so cold here!!
do yourself a favor and let that girl warm up!!!!

I rarely even hit my secondaries. I usually shift around 4500-5000 rpm (I know I know, where's the fun in that)...but I a.)Dont want to attract attention to myself by revving high, and b.)Like to baby my car. Most of the driving I do doesn't require me going any higher than 5000 rpm.

Me too...I rarely go above 5 grand. I like to treat her right and keep her madness inside for when I really need it
And VTEC will not activate until normal operating temp is reached, I dont remember if its Water temp or Oil Temp.

Ya, please wait before LAYING DOWN vtec especially if your CAMMED OUT. In some cases, poeple are PUSHING OUT alot of HP. When you GET ON IT and HIT THE SECONDARIES it's hard to HOOK.
I usually don't TACH OUT my car till warm, unless I want to RUN someone. Are you picking up what I'm puttin down? Great thread!

Does anyone else's engine sound like absolute **** when it's cold? Mine sounds freakin horrible, but fine after it's warmed up. My subaru never did this....didn't know if it was common though.

I try to get into the upper RPM range at least once every time I drive my car, or at least once a day anyway. These engines were made for it and revving it up on a regular basis helps keep carbon buildup to a minimum.
I live on the top of an incline/hill so my car has plenty of coast time to warm up.. what I usually do is start my car, while its running take off club and other devices, put in whatever CD or tune the radio to whatever I want to listen to, buckle up, don't have to adjust mirrors since I'm the only driver... then I back up... untilt he car is out of the garage.. and lower and lock the garage.. then continue to back out and coast down the hill... then I usually get the red light at the bottom of the hill at the main st...
after this I just keep the car under 3K until it hits operating temp.. then once it does.. if I feel the need I'll go into vtec...
I think for vtec to operate the following constraints must be met:
coolant temp/normal operating temp
oil pressure/adequate motor oil and oil pressure
engine speed (RPM)
speed/throttle position
no CE lights...

I always wait 'til my car is fully warmed up before pushing her, ALWAYS.

I usually shift at around 3500 to 4000 rpm. I thought I would be saving gas, but am I actually wasting gas shifting this low? Is it better to always shift at 4500 to 5000 rpms?
Thanks

What kind of oil are you using? Acura recommends a warm up of 1 minute and less than 5 minutes or it will harm your engine> It's in the manual
