Default Compression Symptoms??? (Help)

The Symptoms is when driving, the car lacks power dramatically.
During WOT, the rev (RPM) would jump to redline very quickly. Then settles down to match current speed & rpm if I give it only partial throttle. I've notices this for quit sometimes now, but yesterday it has escalated where I can't even drive the car anymore.
As I was on my way home from work, I step on the gas pedal in 1st gear (or any gears) the car just won't go. It feels like its only running on 1 cylinder (lack of HP's.) It idles fine, no oil leak, haven't check spark plugs yet.
Could it be lost of compression in the cylinders?
Any help is appreciated and I'll pull the motor apart this weekend to find out the issue.

TIA!
