start with a 8:1 fmu and then go to a dyno to fine tune it with you controller (what kind is it?)

Go to a dyno and fine tune it there. Your not going to get any "setting" that will help you here. every set-up is different.
I'm about to purchase a v-afc or fields sfc before i go back to the dyno, so i can fine tune my air/fuel ratio.....
I'm runing 4:1 FMU 310'S and a gs-r ecu......my air/fuel ratio is probably still in the low 10's

OK I was thinking about going to the 6.1 FMU! and what do yo mean that the A/F is in the low 10's?
I have an egt gauge as wel. I ahve not put anything in the car except for the 310s and the S-AFC. but i want to get evey bit of info that i can!

I would stick w/ 8:1 to be safe. And when he says his A/F ratio is in the 10's...it's means he is really rich...ideal A/F under boost is 12:1...

I have NipponDenso 550cc injectors, hondata, i have the fuel pressure set to 60Psi.
I still use the stock fuel rail, and ia B&M FRP..

I hope this setup will make 400whp in a SOHC. we will see in june if it does

yeap, 400whp, i just hope i can make the 550's do the job..

If not then i will use 720cc

Brian

I am using a T3/T40e with a .60 trim comp. wheel ,and a .63 Exhaust housing.

It should be more than enough on a SOHC..( I hope)

What bore is the block?

What turbo manifold are you going to be using?

Thanks

the block is a 75mm bore D16Y8. i am using the DRAG Gen III manifold,,(will be buying a Spark next.)

I kept the bore stock because i already had a set of arias pistons in that size, and the cylinders will be thicker this away also,,(as if GE werent enough already)

I am currently driving the car now, i have about 300 miles on the new motor, and all seems to be great. the turbo lag isnt that bad at all, all though i havent really tried to hit full boost yet.. with this etup i am thinking i should see a full boost of 15-18Psi at about 5-6K ,and i am going to turn this motor 8500, so i know i will have an ok power band, but the power up top will be sick!!!!

A 60trim .63ar has to be a huge lag monster on a sohc...when do you hit boost? My friend has that same turbo on his 1g DSM and he doesnt get full boost until like 4200rpms.

And as far as fuel goes..lets find out...

Im going to guess your running ~55psi static fuel pressure (alot of hondata systems use this).

All injectors sizes are calculated at 43.5psi fuel pressure. So lets recalculate for 55psi.

55/43.5 = 1.2643678 , square root that = 1.1244411 x 550 (the orginal injector size) = 618.4cc

Now that we have the cc size at 55psi fuel pressure, lets figure out how much hp that will support. Most injectors will max out at 80% duty cycle and this is the accepted industry standard. Although in practice you can streach that some...

To find out HP we have to use #/hr instead of cc/min.

618cc / 10.50 = 58.8lbs/hr

Now the HP formula

(58.8 * (80% duty cycle)) / .65 B.S.F.C = 72.4hp
72.4 x 4 injectors = ~288whp

Now that is with a BSFC of .65 which is pretty rich, most N/A setups tune for .50.

Now if you wanna tune for the max power, little leaner, and higher duty cycle...

(58.8 * (90% duty cycle)) / .60 B.S.F.C = 88.2
88.2 x 4 = ~352whp

So your goal of 400whp i think is way streching it with the 550cc's. Tuning for "safety" without a super high injector duty i think you be hitting right around 300whp. For 400whp on 550cc you would have to run 75psi static fuel pressure, 90% injector duty, and a BSFC of .60.

Now lets say you get 720cc injectors? At 55psi static fuel pressure 80% injector duty at a rich .65 BSFC is around (im just gonna use my calculator right here and not write it all down) ~379whp. Tune it a little leaner at .60 BSFC and 65psi static fuel pressure and 85% injector duty and your pushing ~474whp.

Remember im using "static" fuel pressure for all these fomulas. If you have a rasing rate fuel pressure regutalor (most are 1:1) you will have to remember to add in the extra fuel pressure for the boost your running. If your running 12psi and a base fuel pressure of 55psi, thats 62psi. So calculator your injector size off that. (since you will be at full boost when you hit full power)

As you can see there is alot of things to play with, and i dont know your setup so i can only guess. Im pretty sure i did all that math wrong if you see anything wrong lemme know. Good luck on your setup.

I got all these fomulas from http://www.rceng.com/technical.htm - read up and try it for yourself!

thanks,
liam

NICE ONE BRO!!

But the thing is, i made 269 whp on 440cc DSM injectors @ 60Psi of pressure, and i was @ 90% duty cycle, i tuned for 12.5:1 AFR, and the car ran strong like that for a year, with no probs..I just rebuilt for bigger boost.
So i think i should at least be able to get 300-350whp on 550...
I Guess we will see then..

oh yeah my staic is 60Psi

full boost should be seen by 5-6kRPM.

WOW now thats some turbo lag! But i bet it hits really hard when it does come to life!

The BSFC and the type of fuel pressure under full boost comes into place with those HP numbers. If you get all the numbers right the "calculations" and what shows up on the dyno is very close.

Good luck let us all know what you do! BTW how much boost are you planning on running?

thanks,
liam

I am going to run about 1.2 bar(18Psi) i was told this would be anough for me to hit my goal.

I hope to hit my goal this june.. i will mor than likely use race gas to hit 400whp, but i want no less than 325-350whp on pump gas!!!!

I will either meet my goal, or blow it up trying... lol

wow 325 on pump gas on a sohc? I hope you have 93 octane! That would be really hard to hit on 91 octane **** cali gas.

Let us all know on your progress!

Hey listen i am goin to be running the internals stock! and i wanna run 10 at the track and well on the road i use 5 but i wanna know if i use the stock injectors over the rcs what is the point! I can increase fuel thru the afc and the Fmu.i know the 310's will flow more but i think that i should be able to pick up the need fuel between the pump/fmu/and the afc! also anyone have a good idem on what is the best way to set up the afc? like the cor% rate What is that ingeneraly used for?
HELP!!!!\ Thanx

my suggestion is this... go with the afc hack like a lot of people are running. Get yourself some Eclipse Turbo injectors (450cc's) and have them cleaned. Get the resistor box from one of those older hondas (i forget what years had them). Get a Walbro 255lph intank pump. Throw the mix together on ur car. set the afc to -35% across the board (to be safe). That's a safe setup IMO which is what I run and I've ran up to 8psi as is without problems. More detail to it but if you decide on doign that there's lots of information on the setup on this board.
