VMSC has to do snazzy shizzle like that because their events are usually suck-***. Also, their courses are usually the ProSolo layouts so their "originality" comes with the map "presentation".
One of their guys (guy working tech as part of his work assignment) got real beligerent with me about my pedal covers at a VMSC event. I knew all my GS competitors, and they sure didnt care, and he said i need to run DSP. I told him that if anyone protested, i'd move and that i really didnt care.

Awwww... c'mon, Drew... VMSC has been around for much longer than you, RJ, or I have been alive... and their members are some of the fastest folks in this area. They might not be a cutting-edge club but they have put on some great events for sure IMHO.

Wow! I think that is the first good thing I have ever heard about them.
My opinion is admittedly biased because without VMSC in place ten years ago I might not have ever known that autocrosses took place around here. I remember going for a ride in Roger Garrett's ZR-1 years ago at Fort Lee doing a legitimate 100mph on the "back straight" and being sincerely impressed that anybody allowed that to happen in a street car with novice passengers, for $10 per event

Don't get me wrong, I spent a lot of time/energy in the late 90's trying to put on bigger/better events than theirs under the NASA-VA name... and I have heard the things you mention a hundred times before.
FWIW, I got the same kind of **** from them back in the day, but stuck it out and I consider myself more attentive to the rules and processes of the sport as a result.
Long story short, those of us in VA are much better off with their events than without them. Any Sunday when we can plow around the cones and try to learn something is better than a Sunday when we can't, right?

Respectfully IMHO of course -
Jon
PS- Drew, aren't you older than me? See IM...
