Microlon coatings, anyone heard of this?
I'm lookin for some info on this product, I don't know very much about it but it has been recommended to me and I'm looking for some third party feedback. Its called "microlon" and its used to coat engine internals with the purpose of reducing wear and increasing engine lifespan.
Reading a little further... Although it doesn't look like Zmax contains microlon, it still sounds like another snake oil product.

Re: Oil Additives (including microlon): http://www.projectz28.com/Maintenance.html
I'd be wary of Microlon atm simply because you they don't give you more info.
edit\\\ I should note my view on Molybdenum additives.
Most engine building lubes are Moly intensive...such as the ones used when installing cams, etc. The TypeR pistons are coated in Moly. Redline and Mobil1 oils (synthetic) along with Castrol GTX (dino) have some of the highest contents of moly in synthetic oil you can buy....and these oils are associated with excellent lubrcation properties.
If you wanted to add Moly treatment that would be fine. Mugen even sells a Moly treatment that looks to be well formulated. I currently stick with Mobil1 oil (will be switching to Redline) so I don't really see the need for yet more Moly in the engine.

A reputable engine builder is highly recommending it but I've never heard of it. Any feedback is appreciated
Castrol GTX has one of the highest contents of Moly in a dino oil (something along the lines of 80ppm I want to say)
Mobil 1 is like ~180 and Redline like ~800 (something insane)
Mugen Oil Treatment has Moly (proof in the link

This is the alternative that I hinted before... http://www.schaefferoil.com/data/132.html MUCH cheaper, but very thick consistency. I would use sparingly in a no/low moly oil. [Modified by BrewCityR, 12:04 AM 2/25/2003]
moly lubes are great for the car, and coating the piston sleves with it isnt a bad idea when building your engine. your gonna need to lube it anyway.
later
shahe- who slangs redline and uses it in all his cars...

does that mean pennzoil/gtx are one of the better dino oils to go with? ive been using mobil syntec for a while but am stepping down to half mixes with mobil dino. maybe even consider going back to full dino.. or the high mileage kind

Let me guess ......Dan Paramore

You are correct
Xd - you'd be better off going full Dino or Full Synthetic.
Brew - I wasn't aware of the high content of Moly in Pennzoil. As for Chevron...eh, I'll stick with my moly
>>> Any moly treatment will probably be good...the mugen is $48...kinda pricey
