ok long story ill try to make shart as possible , a few moths ago i bought a 91 EF hb si with salavaged title for 1500 interior was real clean body looked pretty straight , well i did a carfax report and the miles where way off in 97 the car had 99,000 miles and in 2000 177,000 and in 2001 it had 125,000 and in 2001 the car was gaven a salaged title and reconstructed , there are a few signs off junkyard parts on the car , the guy i bought from bought it for a daily driver and needed money cause he bought a 97 bmw m3 (lucky him) anyways the car ran ok and was a great project car for b16a or b18a b18c ect

so i checked out the engine looked really stock besides had a intake system , the car drives ok and everthing

Now Here Is The Weird Part
this morning im getting gas i pop the hood check the fluids oil ect , i decide down to look at the block the head looks like or is a d16a6 , i look down at the block and to my shock the block says B15b not D16a6 ( that should be the motor for a SI )so now im like **** i have a DX motor or bottom end oh well im going b16a anyways

Well this really got to me and decided to look at the motor better the head looks just like a d16a6 head and has programed fuel injection mainfold ect and si wiring not DX multi port injection , the ecu i have is pm6 ecu (si ecu ) i look at the block and it says D15b no numbers after it , now i know the dx motor says d15b1 b15b2 , but the b15b i was told was jdm soch vtec motors

also all US motors have numbers after the block number b16a3 ,b18c1 , b18c5,b18a1 ect and jdm is just b16a b18c ect

my question is this a jdm b15b bottom end and a d16a6 head what compession is this ? and im wondering why the hell someone did this (no racer owned the car looks ) what u guys think

in japan the dx engine has no # designation. its just a d15b, so for specs just look up the dx specs.

you can put mpfi on it, just like you can put mpfi on a usdm dx....

 

i got my 91 DX with a D15b with no numbers, it has a plate on the back for EGR but it still had dual point, now i have a b16

 

Well based on the info you provided I think this may be a possible senario:
The car was..."borrowed" by persons unknown a few times and owner was able to
recover it. The insurance company or owner deceided it was not a total
and replaced the parts that were ganked. The local DMV prob listed a salvage
title based on the odometer issue and maybe a few other things. Hey if its
running okay,dont sweat.

D15b SOHC Vtec is out of the JDM Civic VTi. Not sure about non-vtec though. Hope that helps you a bit
