Oh, that hurts to look at.
Should we speculate on what happened? I'd guess he crested the hill under the bridge and found he was too far left and running out of pavement... jerked it too hard to the right and spun into the wall.

Yep. A total loss. So what's it cost new? 350k? I'd go about there.
Turn 12 strikes again. He musta been haulin' *** to get screwy at the TOP of the hill...
Anyone want to take out a wager on what the repair bill will be?

I'm wondering how this happened also. I've driven Road Atlanta many times in racing sims and have had a few similar incidents happen, though probably the most common mistake is going into the last turn too hot and going off on the left side of the straight before the finish. It seems that he messed up really bad to end up on the right side just before the last turn. Looks like the car spun going off in the grass under the bridge, with the front left hitting the wall first which in turn made the rear left hit and spinning it around to it's resting position. Maybe he forgot about weight transfer to the front when cresting and did a power on oversteer with the loss of traction to the rear tires?

Looks to me like the rear end came around, and the REAR left hit the wall first. Then the left slide slammed into the wall, and bounced off hard enough to make the car do a 180 and leave it in the position we see in the picture. Considering the damage, if the front left had hit first, it would be positively destroyed. It also would mean worse news for the owner, because the engine would have taken quite a jolt....

Ouch, well as long as the driver is ok thats whats counts. Where are the tire barriers or those foam barriers. Like someone said that is a common area to crash so why would the track officials have barriers step up their.
Wow, that sucks! I agree, looks like he hit from the rear first then flipped ends. So back end got squirrely and he lost it. He must have been flyin'. Man, I'd be seriously pissed regardless if I was rich or not. I wonder what the track conditions were like and if the cold significantly contributed to the spin.
Suggestion,
For all the rich people out there, go and buy a cheap nasty Civic, 280Z, something less than the price of a Silicon Valley home. Then learn how to drive it. Then you can take your very expensive exotics on the track. ANd you can also bring it home in the same shape.

I remember when the E36 M3 first came out. You couldn't go to a BMWCCA event without seeing at LEAST one of them totalled. And this is a car that's pretty easy to drive.
More money and power than skill isn't a good combination.
Assuming that's what happened here. Coulda blown a tire for all we know.

Gee - a third of a million dollars and it doesn't come with talent OR judgement? I'd be pissed...

That is an uneccessary slight. I've been to more than one open track day/hpde where I've seen drivers lacking 'judgement and talent' driving various marques. While it's easy to fault the operator, and even easier when it's an exotic, its a very unsporting remark to make.
Regards.

A siliar incident took place last year at The Glen at a Trackmasters event with a 911 GT2..Came out of the bus stop hot and looped in into the wall right side first *** end in..Pinstriped the car with the tire wall..
An estimated $60,000 in damage...
Afterwords the owner was overheard saying..."I made a mistake, next time I'll take the correct line, Oh well that's racing".....
I respected that, albeit almost choked on the repair bill..
Glad to hear all are OK, All at the Glen were fine also..
More money than skill...bad mix..Which I is why my track car is a Civic and not the S2000..

Road Atlanta has a reputation for chewing up and spitting out cars of all makes and models. Sometimes it even has a craving for Integras.
Scott, who's new race car consists of a tub that's as disposable as a race car tub can be. Wreck it... strip off all the goodies and buy another tub for $400
