Couple of really quick questions regarding a Toda header & a stock ITR Exhaust
I searched around a little bit and just want to clarify a couple of things:
To hook up a Toda header to a stock ITR exhaust system I'd need a 2.5" carsound cat. Will this then bolt up to the rest of a stock ITR exhaust? What diameter is the stock ITR exhaust?
The reason I ask is I got thinking about it (I don't know if anyone remembers my last thread about this) and I think trying to go cheap and buy budget performance parts for an ITR is like cheating on the car.
Would I be able to get noticable gains off a toda header with a stock ITR exhaust now? When I get the header and cat, and dyno to tune my VAFC, would another dyno/tune be needed when I get a 2.5" bottleneck-free exhaust?
Thanks guys

You would have to modify the output flange of the cat down to 2.25" or so - thereby creating a bottleneck.
It would work - but it kind of defeats the purpose of getting a free flowing exhaust system.
You don't have to dyno tune when you do exhaust mods - but it's a good idea.

You can use a 2.5" cat for the header, and it WILL bolt up to your stock bpipe. I did this before I got my Fujitsubo. (contact SMSP, he has the cat you want)
There obviously will be a change in piping diameter where the cat meets the bpipe, but it will bolt up. And since you are planning on getting an exhaust, there is no sense is removing the first bottleneck on the bpipe, just leave it as is.
The difference was night and day. The car felt much better with the larger/better header/cat. AND... once the exhaust was added, it was another noticeable improvement.
You will need to re-dyno/tune when you get an exhuast. It will make a big difference.

It will bolt up tot he stock exhaust with the carsound cat. I think the ID on the stock exhaust is like... 2.0" or 2.25" (i forget). Do a search... tons of exhaust posts last year.
There will be a noticeable gain. I noticed the gain with my JDM4-1 and stock exhaust. Yes another dyno time would be needed...

2.5" Cat will bolt up to the OEM B Pipe.
OEM B Pipe at the flange is about 1.8" ID
Rest of the piping is about 2-2.25"
You wouldn't have to retune just removing the bottlenecks wouldn't make enough change in A/F ratio to need retuning necessary. If You went with a more Free flowing setup like the T1R or a Spoon Exhaust then you would want to retune as depending on how much you lean the mixture out with the VAFC the Free Flowing exhaust would make it lean out a bit more and you'd probably be better off retuning or at least checking the A/F ratio. You'd probably have enough room to play with, but you never know as everyone tunes a car differently.

Yes there IS a bottleneck, but if you are going to get an exhaust you can live with it for the time being.
Edit: Woo... lots of replies. That's good that I can bolt it up to the stock exhaust, that's kind of what I'm planning to do for now I suppose.
Hmmm... So you think this is kind of a bad idea to do until I can afford to do the entire exhaust system? What is the most affordable 2.5" exhaust I could get right now that would bolt up to a carsound cat? I want to eventually replace it with a high end exhaust like a hytech or something, but for the time being just to not be running a total ghetto-rigged setup...

Awesome. How much did your Fujitsubo run you, if you don't mind me asking? jdmspecperf.com says to call for a price

I think you'll be okay
I'll IM you the price.
I do not know if this is the 'going rate' right now, as me and Jon/Flux got the last two that Leo had in the US, but it will give you a good idea.
Plus... IPS/R&D and AJ have a GREAT price on the new 65mm T1R, and I believe free shipping.
Might want to try that one if you don't like the Fujitsubo price or if it isn't available for some time. Very similar to the Fuji. If I didn't have my RM-01A, I'd buy it right now.

Cheaper than the Fujitsubo and has No Bottlenecks.
No reason to get a Hytech with this setup and you save yourself $200-400

Dyno of ITR with stock exhaust with bottleneck and all:

I think you'll be okay

Best Priced for a TRUE 2.5" Exhaust would be the New T1R system $645 and you get Free Shipping on the Introductory offer thats available right now.

Isnt that the one with the 1" pipe inside the midpipe resonator?

The t1r exhaust is one of the nicest exhaust I've seen.
Sheesh well us chi-town guys are going to have to arrange another discount dyno day because after buying all this **** I'm going to be paying for tuning in pennies
I think this is the setup I've decided on:
JDM DC 4-1
2.5" Carsound
T1R Exhaust
AEM FPR
With my VAFC this should produce some phat results, and make my wallet scream for mercy

Spring/Early summer would be great... Depending on the gross cash yeild from my birthday next Friday I may not have all my stuff until then
*sigh* 20 is too old
*crosses fingers for lots of phat checks*
