how does it idle? rough, you might have done some damage. If not, you might have gotten lucky. What kind of car?

haha, today I was driving normal and I missed shifted into 1st gear instead of 3rd gear but I knew a head of time and stepped on the clutch so my rpm only went up to 3k, no biggy.

you may not need to worry cause the factory rev limiter saves you.

not when you miss-shift. the rev-limiter cuts the fuel when your accelerating. if you miss-shift the rev limiter is bypassed and your motor can rev till it explodes. goodluck

i dont have much experiance with this but im guessing at most you bent a few valves but since your saying your idle isnt rough you may have lucked out. go get your valves checked out and goodluck

what if I like to shiet around wea I don't want to stop? a friend of mines wasn't racing with me but I still managed to get my rpm to 85000 while my gauge cluster's limit is 69000 rpm meaning the needle went around the gauge 3 times and end at 85000 and my valves just eject after I push the jdm rice button but the parachutes didn't depoly so they are @#$ed!!... and will not fit in my notor anymore.

First of all, I would check the CEL and find out what code it's throwing. That should help hunt down any possible damage.

that was a response to HmgLauj69's rude behavior and typos/mistakes. The bolded texts are the apparent errors.

this happened to me when i first got my license , i got super scared and i thought the engine was making a noise ( all in my mind) , i went got a copression test , and leak down and visual inspection of valves and such , everythign was fine except i DID need a valve adjustment ( i did one of those , 3rd gear red lineing clutch down , shifting the 4th , Fuct up and hit 2nd , made a crazy nosie , but picked it up about a half a second after it went in ) it sucked o yea p.s. there is no rev limiter when you misshift , its like being past it so it doesnt save you . . . . .

Hopefully you lucked out!I missed 4th and put it in 2nd , rpm's shot to 9k, but i slammed the clutch pedal down hoping to save me. . But unfortuneatly i bent 2 valves and banged up 1 of my valve guides. So i replaced my whole valvetrain .Just uh..Make sure you are not out driving around still, and get it checked soon.Try to see if it is pulling any codes.Right afer it happened for me, it idled really bad, bogging and wanting to stall.Head was sent out to machine shop and magnafluxed for any cracks and shiet that may have ruined the head.Luckily nothing major was done and i could keep it. Still driving with over 120,XXX miles and still whoopin' dem stangs.

but if the idel is normal, and your car is running fine, idles fine, and still feels smooth from gear to gear, then you should be alright. check for any burned oil or anything coming from your exhaust too, that might indicate valvetrain problems or other internal problems.

yeah!?....right after it happened to me it was idleing somewhat normal...ima bout to check it again right now....but most likely it's just my valves right??......could my pistons be f@#$ed too??.....remember i gots a 94 ls with 153,XXX miles on it, red lines at 6900 my rpm jumped over 8500....now that's bad considering it's an 94 ls that's over mile....

my bad bout the post the other day, people just be posting some stupid shiet sometimes.....and ya'll know how it is when this kinda stuff happens....mad as a mother....so yeah, no hard feeling though ya'll!....

Ya, ive done the same...well it think everyone has...my story goes i was racing a prelude through downtown boston, went to throw it in 5th...oops 3rd gear forced rev it way over 10g's...and mine survived!!! Must be to all those good oil changes every 2500 miles that my motor wanted to live or something...just readjust your valve lash and you should be alright.

I thought you hit 8500rpm in a GS-R... but since its on an LS, there MIGHT have been some damage. If you're lucky, maybe not.

How's the car running? Idle? Any difference in the drive? Go test your car out and see if anything is different and let us know. Then we can probly help you out a little bit more.

Maybe you should relax when you shift.

dont worry too much man. is your car running funny or is there a funny smell or smoke somewhere? my friend somehow went from 5th to 3rd and did 10,000rpm (i think thats where the rpm ends, the needle couldnt go any higher) in his gsr. He was in it for about 3 seconds due to all of us yelling at him and pointing to his tach. But his car is fine.
