Default Time To Replace TIming Belt?!?!

Damn.. Lately theres a rattling sound coming from, i believe the timing belt? it used to just rattle a little bit and not make much sound, so i ignored it kinda, and now its getting louder and happening more frequently especially when im idle, or accelerating.. Ahh.. could this mean its time to replace my timing belt? im pretty sure its my timing belt i think? i got my car when it was 80k.. its now.. nearly 140k? im afraid to drive it now, cus im scared it might be what i think it is, and it might snap .. until i get an appt with my dealer.. does this sound like what i assume it to be?

It's probably the tensioner... but as per Honda recommended repair schedule the timing belt should of been done around 100k miles.

tensioner.... I also recommend timing belt too...! I would go water pump, tnesioner and timing belt all at once to save the hassle...

Smart thing to do. I wouldn't drive it anymore. Broken t-belt means bye bye motor, not bye actually but your wallet will be a lot looser.

when you rev up your can and it revs down and makes a gargleing noise im pretty sure it the timing belt cause my friend works at honda and he has a prelude and had the same problem. He changed the timing belt and the noise went away..

Its the timing belt, but since you are changing that you might as well change the tensioner also.

ya, in my x-gf's integra., it sounded like valves tapping, but it was the timing belt slapping the valve cover. we knew it needed to be changed but were busy. then it broke, we were lucky and it didnt bend the valves.

while changing the t-belt, you should change the oil pump, water pump, and some cam gears.

btw- dont let the stealership do it, they will charge out the ***.

whoa...this sounds all too familiar...i had this same exact problem, until my water pump blew out and i was left car-less in orlando. your doing the right thing by not driving it. when my water pump blew out it took the timing belt with it, which in turn made a couple of my valves into art work

I've noticed almost the same problem... there is a slight ticking and I cant really locate where its comming from. the thing is that my timming belt and water pump were replaced 15,000km ago and at the same time I got a valve adjustment. anyone know what else it could be?

Hmm mine is making a funny noise too... but it's almost more like a rattle/tick/vibration kind of sound... it's hard to explain. It's really loud... and usually does it around 1500-3000 rpm. I stick my head in there and push the throttle and listen but i can't figure out what the heck it is. It sounds like it's on the left side of my engine... away from the timing belt and all the other belt driven stuff. It actually sounds like it's coming from the distributor... lol but I don't think that's it. I just adjusted my valves.. and I know what they sound like... and that's not it. Anyone have any ideas??

I cant really pin point where its comming from, it sounds like either the timing belt area or underneathe the valve cover... also I've had my whole distributor replaced last year cause it was making a reaaaaaaally bad rubbing noise... aparently the shaft was cracked so the whole thing got replaced!

it wasn't constant at first it would come and go periodicly (sp?) mostly at idle. After about a week it sounded really bad, hard to describe but it was like a rubbing noise, by no means was it a ticking noise it was loud and obviously didn't sound normal. My machanic found a used distributor so I got lucky, for the parts and labor I paid $900 canadian (approx. $600 us)
