my DIY c-pillar bar
the only thing u need to really do is buy the bar which is galvanized steel from lowes 3/4" thick [thanks agen to redstargsr i believe] and make the brackets which i got in the hardware dept i dont know the exact thickness but its pretty hard to bend but its possible... i had to mount it to the bar and push that end against the floor for it to bend...

ah, well okay then... may I suggest you bend them slightly more than 90 deg. and then attach 2 bolts instead of 1 where the bracket attaches to the bar, and have the brackets oriented so they point upwards along the pillar (reason for bending more than 90 deg.). That way the brackets won't be able to rotate on the bar.
can you give me an approximation of the angle you bent the brackets?
that would really help
thanks
also whats the foam stuff on the bar and where did you get it

tell u the truth i have no idea i just cut the brackets bent them and placed them on and let the brackets take the deciding on where they should be...this isnt a mod to be affraid of doing..as long as u have a hack saw a drill really sharp drill bits and materials your good to go
oh yeah and about the brackets being placed diff. im fixing it tomorrow after school...i had to get to a uniformed family gathering and had to finsih quickly...DARN THOSE FAMILYS! lol jm
hey, can somebody gave me a site of how to do this, i mean by just looking at it, it look pretty easy, but im those type of guys that wants to keep a instrution sheet around. So if anyone has one, please let me know. thanks!
can you get some closeups of the bracket?
what kind of bits do you use? when i made my rear upper bar, i bought the best metal drill bits and it still took me like an hour with a makita drill to make holes in 1/2" plumbing pipe from home depot. the holes ended up being about 1"x0.75"

Good job, I love seeing people's DIY projects.
On the same note, here are some pics of my DIY c-pillar bar on my DA.

Sorry the pics are bad, I took them when it was dark outside... the flash sort of made everything look washed out.
BTW, I noticed a HUGE difference with the bar installed. THe entire back end of the car feels much more "planted" and stable.

i wish i had a digital camera or scanner, i would post the pics of the c-pillar bar i just built..its pretty sick. i used 1" steel tubing and angled it back first towards the rear glass and the across, and put in 2 angle brace and the joint. this way its not in the way of the rear passengers. i welded everything so its strong as hell. sprayed it with some body shutz (undecoating).
lol no both tegs arent mine thats my friend mikes in the fornt of mine...you can get the padding at any hardware store such as lowes or HD, i just painted min e red w/ some left over paint i had...as for the drill bits i had to keep searching around my house to find some "decent ones" and i attached all peices to a vice and drilled away...make sure its not on reverse or your gonna be there for awhile...i think the most difficult part was drilling the holes b/c there are so many and u get tired after a couple holes...but all in all its worth it..total was about 12 bucks including the bar metal strip and 4 bolts and matching nuts...oh yeah there was a nother type of piping htere that looked gunmetal...it was called black iron it was about 6-7 bucks instead of the 9 bucks i payed for it...oh yeah and the lenght of the piping was 4 feet an di cut off about half a foot all together i believe..HTH!
oh and to the other guy with the DIY c-pillar...howd u polish it? or was it like that when u bought it?

My bar is solid aluminum, and no it didn't come polished. I have a buffer that I use with polishing compound (and sanding, of course) to polish.
I wouldn't bother polishing a steel c pillar bar.

Are the DC2, DC5 and DA integras that week in that area? Why?
I would assume a car like a Civic would be much stiffer there, because it does not utilize a large rear hatch opening.
