Default CAI vs. modified stock intake

I do not see what the big deal is about an AEM CAI, for $200 (like $500 Canadian ) is it really worth it or is more for show? My question is, if I were to take out the intake resonator and all that garbage under there and to put in a K&N drop in filter into my stock air box will there be much of a difference then a true CAI? I may be wrong but I don't think there is much of a difference in the diameter of piping either.

the paint that AEM uses is heat resistant and the tubing is longer. wtih the stock air induction modified, you will get better throttle repsonse than the CAI. but wtiht he CAI you'll lose a tad bit of torque off the bottom end and gain hp back at the top-end. i gues you could modify your factory one, it's cheaper and doesnt work all that bad,and you dont have to worry about hydrolocking, but i do like my CAI

ive been doing alot of research on this lately and i think i am going to try a stock modified in place of my aem.the reason being is that i have run across two all motor preludes that are both putting down impressive numbers with stock air intake.if anyone has anymore info about this please post it.

Hmmm, I had a CAI on my 4th gen, provided pretty good high RPM grunt on the butt dyno, I have a SRI now on my 5th, of course that's there just in case I "boost". BTW Windsnore represent yo!!! What part are you from? I grewup in South Windsor.

Peace

I'm in South Windsor as well (one of the many white 4g prelude drivers in windsor!)
where do you get all your work done at/ parts from?

I'm low on cash because of school thats why I was wondering if there would be a noticeable difference between an AEM CAI and a hack one?

seriously....just buy a short ram if your all that paranoid about hydrolock...and if your strapped for cash, buy a knock off brand cai because the only difference really is teh heat resistance paint... i really do like my aem cai on my 4th gen...it makes my car sound like an angry lawn-mower instead of a anoyed 1 especialy in v-tec

what's funny is i saw a dyno compairison from a non-biased source and the RS Akamoto intake has more peak HP than the AEM by like 2 on a civic heh. Oh, and it also comfirms what I've been saying with headers, the longer the straight section off the head the more HP the header will produce (everything else being the same), even if the tube is longer to the collector on another.. that has more affect on the torque curve and can adjust the RPM high point to a lower RPM. The shorter overall to collector the higher the RPM the header tends to work at

*sigh* I miss my white Prelude. Maybe I've seen you around? Hell even the mayor's son has a white Prelude.

Well I have good hookups with the people at Sonictrend on Wyandotte next to Wah Court. My friend Samson owns the shop. I'm sure he can get you a sweet deal! If not, http://www.groupbuycenter.com never fails me

and I can pretty much help u with the air intake installation if you need it.

Peace

anything with a longer section straight off the head, and the collector can be close to that point. for example, they showed a Genie or something head, it didn't make much over stock on a civic.. the header bent as soon as it left the head, and even though the collector was fathest away it didn't help at all. The DC placed 2nd outta 3, and the section off the head was the 2nd longest (being straight). The Jackson Racing took top out of the 3, and the same deal held true.

Oh, and they also explaing why a 4 to 1 isn't really possible on the 5th gen's, there isn't enough clearance for all 4 to go under the engine and then form the "square" collector... you'd have to keep the pipes side by side for ground clearence, and a side by side collector doesn't work.

wow, a thread on a CAI soon became a thread on headers. ust get a K&N air filter, you get the sound and most of the performance

i am from new orleans and it floods alot so i just have a short ram intake. if you ever drive through high water a CAI is not the way to go. It will mess your engine up.
How's life in windsor, i go to school at Notre Dame and I have been to windsor a couple times. That place is awesome

this has become a little off topic yet funny, it started out as a intake thread, then some how turned into a header thread now its a Windsor thread!

Hey, sorry I couldn't have replied sooner!!! If you have ICQ or MSN, send your contact my way. I don't have the white 4th gen anymore, I have a EGP 5th gen now.
