Default HELP! changing timing belt

my dad and i are trying to change the timing belt on his 97 accord lx. we are having troubles getting the nut off of the crankshaft pulley . we have tried using a breaker bar with a 6 foot bar on it, and we just rented an electric impact wrench and that didnt work either. know any tricks? we are trying to avoid spending too much on tools but any suggestions will help. thanks

probably at least a 34" breaker bar or air tools can only take it out

Its damn near impossible.

The two that I have gotten loose took the following measures:

1) Had to take the block w/crank to the dealer and it took them 3 people and their special tool to break it loose.

2) Had the engine out. Bolted a 1/4" thick 1"wide 36" long to the flywheel so the dowels on the fly pushed against it. The steel bar was then held in place on the block by two bolts through the tranny bolt holes. This held the fly and then the 6' cheater bar worked just fine.

the guy who unbolted mine for me heated it up with a torch for about 10 minutes before he got it off using the air gun.

you might also need to get that tool that holds the rest of the pullt in place while you bear down on the bolt. i don't think you wanna be using the prybar on the teeth of the fly wheel for that much torque.

i've read where some people have taken it to a dealer to have it removed for about $30.
