not bad..i almost got one just like that but i chose a crx si instead...is it a 16v dohc???If so then its pretty quick...I never raced a gti 16v but i can leave a jetta..I think ya should get the kami single rounds up front...cool car..theres potential..does it have anything done to it???At least ya stayed old skool..btw hope you dont get any electrical problems..most of my v dub friends have had that with thiers.

I looked for one of those forever and ended up buying a 91 jetta. The jetta got wrecked and I still couldn't find one. I ended up getting my EF instead, I have been pretty happy. Eventually I'd like one of those older gti's though. They are hard to find around here.

planning on building it, u can really pull power from a 8v if done correctly
looking for the single round euro grill as we speak
soon to have euro liscense plate and smoked out turn signal soon.
no electrical problems yet, but i know tru vw people around here who really know these cars

That's funny, I went exactly backwards from what you did, i started by owning 3 85-91 vw Gti's by the age of 17. my pride and joy was my stage 3 g60 powered 87 gti. made over 187 to the wheels! . here's some bad pics

Sigh, I miss my 16v Jetta GLI, recaros, it had a lot of low end torque for a 4banger and factory lsd. Back in the early 90s I used to spank the N/A civic hatch backs. hehe Before engine swaps bacame common.
I won't miss the exhaust fumes coming from the back seat (couldn't figure it out), an the DAMN electrical problems!!!!!

i thought all the GTIs were 16V, on par with the jetta GLI?
either way, i owned an A2 jetta and the complexity of the idle systems coupled with the cost of parts an difficulty of working on them was what led me to honda (my first was an 88 crx)...but they're fun little cars.

Hey my ef is like yours. I have a 97 gti vr6 also and its mint. I like bothe cars but the dub has so much torque its great. Nice Mk2 though my buddy has one with a 1.8t. good luck with mods you will like it.

My friends from back in HS and now College have mk1 gti rabbits and mk2 gtis around here.
toooo many rabbits, like atleast 8 mk1s multi-colored buzzing around. and like 4 mk2s.
(those mk1-2 parts are so interchangable and confusing, i seen my friends work with them.)

i really like those old vw. my friend has a 89 gti with a 92 vr6 corrado motor. when he raced my other friend who has a del sol with a b20/vtec, the gti left him by like 3 cars on top side. those things are really nice.
