Power shifting???
I don't really understand the whole concept of switching gears without the clutch and by doing this you don't lose as much power through the transition???? i duno...my friend has an old mustang and he tells me he does this when he drags...
no it really is when you do it without the clutch... pretty much all it takes is a awesome feel of your transmission, the ***** to do it, and the money to replace it when you **** it up lol...
basically you just hold the gas down and pull out of the gear your in and smash it into the next gear. if you jump ahead then you probably did it right... if you see your transmission in your rear view mirror on the street then you did it wrong
and its not that your losing less power, its more that it shifts faster because you dont have to wait for the clutch to grab and stuff so theres less time when youre not accelerating.
ps ive never done it to my car but ive been with ppl who can do it... its a neat trick ill say that

When you do it without the clutch they call it " rev matching" or shifting when the engine and transmission are both at the same speed. but POWERSHIFTING is when you shift without taking your foot off the gas pedal.
It's not that you shift without the clutch when power shifting, but rather you don't get off the gas while shifting. Secondly, there is no power difference between power shifting and shifting regularly but a much quicker grab of the gear instead, if you've got the ***** and the skill I recommend it.
obviously you dont know what rev matching is...REVMATCHING is when youre downshifting you put the clutch in, downshift and while the clutch is still in you blip the throttle thus ensuring a silky smooth downshift
Powershifting is bad for the clutch, tranny and flywheel...dont do it!
Remember...USE IT...DONT ABUSE IT!(clutch that is)

powershifting is when your shift gears without using the clutch. there was a thread about it somewhere, maybe deleted. if you really don't care about your clutch/tranny then **** it and try it. not every car can do it though. it'll **** ya whole **** up y0.

Power Shifting: This is when you shift w/o use of the clutch. As stated above, if you're lucky and/or good, you can do it with a stock tranny. If you *REALLY* want to do it, you have to get a race tranny (typically around $20,000) that uses what called a "dogs tooth gear" instead of syncros. Pretty much there are two gears that sit side by side held apart, one had 4 "teeth" that stick out, and the other has grooves for these teeth to go into... and the grooves are around 2.5 times the length of the teeth. When you rip them into gear, they slide together and the teeth enter the groove on the other gear and grab hold. Now this type of tranny you have to shift fast and hard or the teeth won't catch and that causes them to wear down quickly.
Speed Shifting: This is when you don't let off the gas while you shift, but you have to shift at a slightly lower RPM so you don't bounce your car off the revv limiter while going for the next gear. My friend did this one too many times with his 89 RX-7 and ended up having to drive 6 miles with only 4th gear in a car with little torque.

that being said, unless you have a dog box, use your clutch. it was put there for a reason.

there is absolutely no need whatsoever to shift like that...all you have to do is learn to shift faster while using the clutch and letting off the gas...its not very hard, but to all of you who wants to replace your tranny clutch or flywheel...kudos to you i hope you eek out that .01 seond by shifting this way
