1.7 DOHC VTEC. it's similar to the B16. It has a cable tranny (stock)

Came with the YS1 short geared cable tranny (no LSD) in the 92-93 gsr.

B17's are good motors. Problem is that you problably won't be able to use the tranny since it's cable.. well it depends on what car it's being swapped into, really.

92 up civics and 94 up tegs all use hydraulic tranny's.

So, tell whoever it is to buy the b17, and then sell me the tranny for cheap.

BTW, that is wrong, the first dohc vtec motor available to the US was in the NSX, in 1990.

THe first dohc vtec integra was the '92 gs-r, with the b17.

That's a fun little motor. It's like a b16/b18c hybrid. It has an 81.4mm stroke vs 77/87.2mm. Revs up like a b16 but has more low end torque. Same deck height as a b16 which makes the internals a great way to stroke a b16. The parts(crank & rods) can usually be located for under $500 if you're patient.

It's a really great engine, and not well known since it was only used those 2 years. There's an article up about comparing a built b17 to an LS/Vtec or B18c1 setup. I think it makes some very good points. It's located here:

This is what I've been led to believe. There's nothing wrong with the cable trannies though, you could run one with an adaptor.
