What is that tie bar looking thing that connects the engine to the car body?

What is that tie bar looking thing that connects the engine to the car body?
I have seen pictures, can't find any now, but they have a tie bar looking thing that connects the right (driver) side of the engine to the car body. What is that bar and what does it do. The best I can describe it is that it looks like a lower tie bar but its hella short and connects the engine to the drivers side engine bay wall.

I believe you are talking about the engine dampner seen here?

that's one expensive piece of equipment...i wonder if that's reproducible given the right tools and equipment...
