Stock Head unit - Fix?
Ok, i know this head unit is a piece of ****... but, i'm attempting to salvage it anyway (broke as a joke). A few months ago, i got the typical CDPE0 error.... the "your **** is fuct and unfixable" data read error. so, RealTypeR graciously lent me his OEM head unit so i can once again listen to CD's... and i now have my piece of **** factory head unit laying on my desk in pieces. Any one ever attempt to fix this? or have we all just gone for an aftermarket head unit.

This isn't Type R specific, but my dad inquired at the shop I had my alarm installed, about having the CD player in his RX-7 repaired and the owner of the shop, who is extreamly knowledgeable, said there is a place in New York who still repairs OEM head units for a decent price. Apparently they're one of the few companies who still repair headunits as the cost is usually almost cheaper to buy a new one. I'm not sure if you're willing to spend the money to fix the OEM deck, but if you want some information on this place in NY let me know and I'll give my guy a call.
............. just save up and go for an after market 50w x 4 ....much better sound........I would personally go for an MP3 deck
christ, doesn't anyone just take stuff apart to see if they can fix it anymore? sigh... fucktards, fucktards everywhere.

I really wouldn't bother with the stock unit, not worth your time or anyone elses for that matter. Just get that cool jdm radio block plate.
I design audio gear for a living and I wouldn't touch it...
The fact is your not likely going to be able to find replacement parts even if you can determine what is all fugged up. Most of the semiconductors inside that junk are not readily available.

When my OEM deck was giving me that same stupid code, I just went down to Circut City but one of those cheap *** cd player cleaners for about $5, put it in, and it helped the situation. The CD's would play for a few weeks, then the code would re appear, so i would slip the cd player cleaner in for a few minutes, and the cd player would start working. You might wanna give that a try.
whoa D.......settle down....judging by your language you don't have anywhere near the intelligence to tackle this problem......your telling me you have money to build your short-block but you don't have $300 for a nice deck........who's the retard??

No clue what you're cd's problem is, but here's my 2 cents.
I had CDPE0 error, and through trial and error (insert and eject), I figured out that it wasn't spinning the cd when it pulled it in.
I took the cover off and pluged it in. I inserted a cd, and manually (lightly) pushed the cd around.
'Holy cow, it works again!', or something like that.
I have no idea what happened or why, but it started working again trouble free.
I hope this will help.

D you have no intelligence. Let me know when you need my help talking that block to the 01-1293's mechanic.. you know.. since you lack intelligence to do things on your own.
d00d, quit messin around with engines and other boring stuff and go drop some serious $$$ on the hi-fi so you can bump tha jamz for all the hotties in O-town and vibrate your hatch like a true playa.
my bro gave me his 97 gs-r cd player that had the same error code. i used it radio-only in my wife's ef for a couple weeks until i could stand it no longer and took it apart. i now have a box full of little teeny screws and misc. parts from the head unit that i have no clue how to put back together. i haven't really attempted, as I don't believe my problem is fixed yet. i took it apart to manually clean the lens as this is what was recommended to me by someone here on this board (he has a mega post count, and dang it I can't remember his SN). apparently he used to repair car audio units and that was his advice to fix the error. i just don't know how to take mine apart any further to access the lens and clean it properly, so I gave up.
maybe i'll just take it into a local electronics repair shop and have them take it from where i left off. i just hope the repair doesn't cost a lot 'cause a stock head unit could most likely be had for $50-100 online.

you're probably better off buying an aftermarket unit (and they sell for less than $300) or another acura/honda unit (i have one - but i won't sell for cheap since it never been used), unless you fix these for living. although its possible to fix it by cleaning, most likely its some major part thats broke and can not be repaired and will cost too much to replace...
