CV Boot Question...
ok guy I'm just wondering...my parents just bought a used 91 accord SE...I was changing the oil and took off the tires to do a check up and i notice that the CV BOOT on the right side it loose/unattached and has some kind of oil coming out of it. My question is that is it still safe to drive and should I replace it or is it ok to keep on driving with a bad CV BOOT?
I would replace sooner rather than latter. Those barrings will lock up with out the grease eventually. Could get ugly if you need to turn or if the wheels lock in a turn.
Replace you axle now. Get a rebuilt unit from Advanced Auto or CarQuest and give them back the core when you're done. Its not very expensive now, but if the axle goes, and it will, it is a mess and very expensive.
how hard is it to change the axle? I looked at Advanve Auto's website and I don't even know what part to buy...If its a hard job I'll probably have shop do it for me...How much you guys think this repair will cost me?
Thanks for your help.
Thanks for your help.
I've got an '86 accord so this information may not even be useful, but I had a bad CV joint for a while and got the front axle replaced. If I remember right, it wasn't more than $150 to get done....maybe I'm way off on that though
