Do i really have to rehone the block? If so whats the average $$ on that? Just checking to make sure i dont **** anything up or leave anything out. Flame me but just trying to get some honda-TECH help

rehone,, more like resleeve, H series = FRM ,, forged pistons won't work with FRM, do a search, you have to resleeve

if they are the oem usdm/jdm h22a4 pistons you just need to rehone. if they are forged, you need to resleeve.

You can run OEM pistons and forged rods, but in the H series the ring landings is where the weekest link is,, you can hone it yourself and put in the new pistons and rods, but if ur thinking of going forced induction, then yeah resleeve, and get forged pistons,, let me know how it goes, and pricing, looking to do the same myself

i'm not flaming....i'm thinking about doing something similar. my question to you; why are you using h22 pistons? are you using h22 rods also? I'm trying to decide on whether or not i want to go with an h22 head w/ h23 bottom for my turbo setup. Might be too expensive. Sorry for all the questions

He's using H22A4 pistons to keep compression. 10:1 H22A pistons are 10.4 in an H23VTEC, however if he used 9.8:1 H23 pistons his CR would drop to 9.3:1, this all due to the different combustion chamber size of the H23 and H22a heads.

He better be using H23/F22 crower rods or the pistons will stock out of the block as the H22 rods are longer.

Also, $35 per cylider to install SLEEVES? Are you sure about that? That sounds hella low....

Anyways yes you have to rehone just to put those pistons in, if they don't seat properly you're gonna be really pissed when you find out you're burning a quart of oil every few days.

I Agree with satan-srv H23 rods instead of H22rods. I bought an H23 prelude with a broken timing belt (bent valves) put a spare JDM head on it. Runs fine I was guestimating 9.5:1 compression Satan how did you come up with 9.3:1 exactly? "I know the combustion chambers differ in size/diameter" And as far as rehoning goes I strongly do not recommened doing it yourself I dont care what "autozone says" If you do more then likely its gonna smoke and burn alot of oil and you will have even lower compression

Moroso oilpan
crower rods
Je pistons9.5:1
chambfered crank
iron sleeved block
polished unortodox crank pully
stock oil water pump all sensors
Indigoo flywheel
and intermeadite shaft for axle

this is my bottom end think its ok to run a vtec head on it? or should i stay with my H23 head?

I was just messing with the calulator on c-speedracing.com

Ludesleep: Dude are you boosting that block? cause those 9.5:1 H23 pistons will be more like 9:1 in an H23 VTEC...that block looks tough, I wouldn't be concerned about tossing a vtec head on it, it's just that all motor 9:1 compression isn't too cool...

I woudl just leave the bottom end stock and run with the H22 head because it flows way better the the H23 head while you have the head off are you going to get any head work done?

here is a pic of the block with sleeve. Should i be worried about running high boost. JG's sleeves look just the same and claim to put 600+ out of thiers. Im going to be running a T3/60-1 prob around 16-20psi...

honestly if you are turboing does it matter if you have an H23 or H22a crank? I don't really think so, just put in an h22a crank and play it safe...

To the original question:

If you are using OEM-type pistons, then yes, you only have to get it honed. I've heard you must do it a certain way for H-series motors, so check on that before doing it yourself. Also, when I was checkin in my area, I had one shop say $40 a hole, and another said $10 a hole! Check around at all the machine shops in your area, and make sure they know what they're doing

ok guys heres the update so you guys dont get confused. I stoped payment on crowers stuff along with je pistons. I lucked out and found a H23 rebuilt bottom end, Moroso oilpan
crower rods<----chromly billit (h23 oem)
Je pistons9.5:1
chambfered crank
iron sleeved block
polished unortodox crank pully
stock oil water pump all sensors
indigoo flywheel
and intermeadite shaft for axle
brackets for p/s, atl, A/C
h23 altanator
stock motor mounts

now im going to be running 16-20psi on this block that has less than 1,000 on it with a (stock)Vtec head. My main concern is the sleeves in the pic above ^^ do those iron sleeves look thick enough to support the boost i want to run. JG's sleeves look about that but GE uses sleeves three times that size.

an H23 block is closed deck, the sleeves won't look like that....

Satan your telling me that in the pic about ..thats not a h23 bottom? It looks closed deck to me? Do those iron sleeves look thick enough. I asked other people this and they said it would be fine cause they have seen people run 300+ on stock internals. Thats with expert tunning tho, Im not bad at tuning but im not an expert and want to know if this block will hold if i make some mistakes while tunning.I guess my question is "Is this block idiot proof?" "Will iron sleeves this thin hold under 16-20+psi?"

$35 per cylinder to resleeve? RUN LIKE HELL AWAY FROM THEM. I am sure you meant to re-hone, Right?

oh sorry I can't see those pics at work. My bad. I am not a boost expert but why don't you just ask the company that made the sleeves?
