Default Question about new Civic

I recently purchased a new 03 Civic Sedan. The dealer told me that my first oil change should be at 3750 miles, while the owner's manual says that for normal driving conditions, the oil doesn't need replacing until 10k miles, then every 10k miles thereafter. Also, the manual says that I only have to change the oil filter every 20k MILES????

My questions are: Should I listen to the dealer and do the first change at 3750? Does the "every 10k mile oil change/20k filter change" make sense?

I know Honda works all this stuff out, but those mileages seem a bit long to me.

TIA

-Travis

go to the rsx forum with questions about 'new' civics. they share more in common, and that's where all the new civic guys hang out. they can help you with those weird numbers.

is honda really good enough to create an engine good for 10k on the same oil?

Well, i figured this was the place to post about an EG+ Civic, seeing as how i have an ES1. Thanks for the heads-up though.

No you must change it at 10k, and only use Honda 5 w 30 Motor Oil, and an OEM honda oil filter.

I'm sorry I just couldn't resist. That's what some people on this board would say.
If it was me I'd change it at 1000 miles, then every 3K miles after that. The more you change your oil and filter the better. It doesn't cost that much so why not add a little more life to it.

That's what I was thinking...thanks for the info guys.

I just wonder why Honda states IN THEIR MANUAL that you can go so long between oil changes...and 20k on an oil filter?? WEIRD!

You could probably follow honda's recommendations, and still get 200k miles out of it easily. Still, it's only a few dollars and could only prolong the engines life.
