OT: The stupidest thing(s) you've done working on/with your prelude.......
Yeah, it's honda-tech and this is off topic, but I figure maybe people can learn from others mistakes or something like that.......was reading about Boosted97Lude forgetting to turn up the heat and thought this would make for a good thread
Here are some of mine:
a) Forgot to put on the oil cap when I took it out for the first drive after the turbo went on
b) Shocked myself on the coil (touched the positive and negative with my hand, then grounded my fingers to my strut bar) while the car was running...ouch!
c) Pulled one of the heater hoses to the core off and spilled hot coolent all over my face! (Thought I had drained it all, but was wrong)
d) Pulled the inner driver side CV spider gear out of the housing when messing with the suspension, then had to spend 3 hours playing in CV grease and lining the bearings up
That's just a few....anyone else?

(D) i did that too god i almost started to cry when i did that cause i knew i was gonna be there all night trying to get it back in it was three in the morning and was ready to go to bed.
i changed my oil and forgot to put my new oil filter on by the way anyone here running royal purple?
Replaced my radiator and after the second jug of coolent relized i forgot to put the bottom hose on
and last of all i was changing the spark plug wires not knowing one of the old ones had a gash in it that was grounding out on the valve cover. I was reving the engine while leaning over with my HAND on the cover and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzap!@!
Now i know why they say weed makes you stupid im a perfect example
When I was installing my nitrous kit I put the fuel noid on backwards. As soon as I started up the fuel pump I fouled all 4 plugs.
Oh, I have tons, but don't have time to post them all...
Recent favorite, when gutting the racecar, I was taking out the AC system, well, forgot to bleed it, and took one of the hoses off the compressor, and got freeon blasted in my face, that sucked!!

got tons also, but here is the most recant one....letting a friend that doesnt know much about hondas work on it. i was messing w/the tranny and he said he was going to do the motor mount inserts. so i walk over tot he car to get something and he is like"i cant get this out" i look over and he has a set of metal shears and cut out the inside of my mount, it was hanging on 1 little therd, i was like wha the hell are you doing, he said" i was cutting this old on out to put these ne ones in"

ok, here goes..... i once pulled my #4 plug wire when i burnt a valve... i was trying to determine what the missfire was from, the MSD igniton shocked the **** out of me.
when i installed my nitrous purge, i put the solenoid in backwards, and as soon as i opend the bottle nitrosu went everywhere
oh yeah, and my friend dropped my engine on his foot, that was funny

Good I am not the only one that has forgotton to put the oil cap back on. Did an oil change drove to work then picked up a friend and she pointed to the front of my car and asked why oil was comming out from under the hood onto the front bumper.
gotta love having to clean 3/4 quart of oil off your engine bay.

Oh I love these posts. I have a few to share also..
I've done both b) and d). The coil sure did shock me, but fixing the cv was a real mess...
I once punctured my gas tank with a jackstand. Always look twice before lowering a car from the jack.
One night I was polishing my valve cover, but needed the car the next day for work. So it was getting dark outside, and I went out to quickly re-install the valve cover. I installed it, and went to work the next day. During lunch the car died and would not turn over. After looking under the hood, I realized I had the wires that are normally fastened to the right-hand side were resting on TOP of the CUT valve cover. Yes, the end was cut off and my exposed cam gears ripped the wires apart 'till it shorted out my electrical system. It also ripped part of my timing belt
.
on me for working in the dark, and rushing. That ended up causing me SO much frustration and work, not to mention 1-2months to fixure out the culprit.
Another fun one was when I removed the oil filter, and the existing gasket had stuck to the block. I did not bother checking to confirm the gasket was still on the old filter, and installed the new one. After filling, I started it, only to have all 5qts of mobil 1 go all over my driveway.
Needless to say, that will never happen to me again!

Not on MY car, but on my friend's teg, we pulled out the windshield washer fluid tank (not bolted in the integra gsr, apparently) and worked on the hids for 10-20 minutes, then closed the hood, leaving both the balast and wwf tank unsecure. The tank melted a bit against the headers by the time my friend noticed it.
That is about the dumbest thing I've done, other than braking around a turn I was losing control on. (spun out after that

when i was reasembling inner CV joints (both) i put bearings backwards.
Everything was ok until i moved my car. Inner CV joints are really expensive.
I filled my power steering with AT fluid, changed fluid but still not working

the stupidest thing i ever did was undo one of the line of the atts thinking it was a line for coolant in the block ....
ohhh and cross threading a oil filter cause the oil filters on sh's are a pain

this is why i avoid rushing on a project, i take my time on my car and havent really done any major damage
i have to say the first thing i did that was stupid was after years of working on muscle cars with frames i get this honda, i go to put jack stands under it after jacking it up at the proper point then as i slowly lowered it down realized oh yeah unibody and it dented but i caught it before any major damage.
(funny part follows)
back in the olden days when imports were simple supra wings were cool and street racing was killer in the bay area there was a night where my buddy and i got hurt from a dumbass i still know named chris
he for some reason doesnt understand to turn car off or put into neutral before letting off the clutch
well his car was bogging so we figured loose vaccum hose or something so the hoods up im next to the car my friend in front of it... he lets off the clutch while getting out and the car jumps forward slamming the hood on my friends head and the car parks on my foot
we yell at him and he stands there like his brain just saw the cops and took off running.. luckly a few buddies push the car back and i get my foot back.. thank god for light crx's

hehe, i forgot the oil cap on my car too, lol, and i was installing my system, and was connecting my power wire with a wrench, and it didn't have rubber.....................i proceeded to turn the wrench too hard, and grounded it to the negative terminal and shocked myself......ouch!
, and one time a friend and i were working on my car, and the car had sat for an hour maybe, and we pulled off the radiator hose and wheeeeeeeeeeee......................i got burnt to hell........then i was working on my friend tex's mustang, and we didn't unnplug the batter (listening to the stereo) and we were doing a tranny swap............well the distributor didn't like us and we grounded out a wrench on the distributor........and of course, he had to thave the gel caps, so it was twice as powerful of a shock

I didn't do this with my Prelude but here we go.
I was reinstalling my amps in my old car (just built new amp rack). Well I think its quicker to strip wire with my teeth instead of getting out of the car to get my strippers. To make a long story short, I thought I had taken the fuse out of the in-line fuse holder and went to strip the 8guage power wire. Man, its funny how 12volts can hurt when they zap a filling in your mouth.

I know this is relatively minor, but one time I burned myself with a solder iron when installing my vafc.
i had a coolant leak in my car, so one time i was driving and i ran out of coolant, so i go to refill it. When i go to open the radiator cap, i twist it slowly... and BOOM it goes flyin away and coolant sprays everywhere. During this time i was thinking "Do Not Open When Hot!" lol
another time i was cleaning my engine and my sister came to bug my and listen to the radio, she also let down the ebrake
. I guess my driveway is on a slope because my car starts rollin! I was like oooo shietz!!! so i try to stop it from the front wbut that dont work so i gotta run with the car and hop in and hit brakes

This was on an older car of mine, but driving about 200 miles round trip, on the way back I go past this box truck and here this really loud bad sounding sound. Didn't realize anything was wrong. Later the power in my car seems to be dieing, like the engine is revving but i'm not moving. Here somehow something put a small hole in the oil pan on the way home and i leaked it all. That bad sound was the sound of my engine dieing
This just happened this weekend. doing a h22a swap in a 94 si, plugged everything up and the damn motor wouldn't turn over, checked everything ie igniiton, plugs, fuel, compression, etc. 6.5 hours later I see that the fuel injector resistor plug is not plugged all the way in.
very simple, but on my last oil change the o ring off my crappy fram filter came off and stuck to the block, wo when i put the new filter on there were 2 o rings, when i started it up and checked for leaks there were none (because the oil pressure was low) but wheni took it for a test drive and got into it the oil pressure blew out the two o rings and sprayed $28 and 5qt of mobile 1 all over the road and my engine bay, luckily i heard the spraying and stopped the engine before it caused any damage. (still got that burning oil smell tho
)

Lets see:
1) Drove about 50 miles without an oil cap on one time. Spent a nice afternoon with the hose and some Simple Green to clean that one up.
2)Broke off an upper radiator hose flange bolt into the flange.
3)Broke off my center valve cover screw when I was putting it back on after changing a valve cover gasket.
4)Screwed up the spark plug wires when I was putting on my Magnacores, took me awhile to figure out that was the problem.

Well I had to big brain farts that led to the death on my motor.
1.) While installing my turbo I hooked the extra injectors up to the fuel return line instead of supply.
2.) After someone broke into my car and took my stereo equipment, I took a short drive with no boost controller. While I was speeding up the car suddenly made some bangs, pops, and backfires. I checked the high boost recall on my turbo timer and it was about 22.3PSI. It still ran ok for about a week then broke a rod and tore up the block.

Mine would have to be ranked pretty high on dumb scale.
washed car, left whipers up. then opened hood to clean engine. stripped all the apint off the back of the hood and the whipers. not once.. but twice. =] (not the same day) hehe
