Default valve spring Q's

what is the different purposes for inner and outer valve springs?
which one does what?

so when replacing both cams....you need 16 new springs, or 32?
if you have an itr engine you keep what springs?

thanks
did a huge search btw

they are different YES..stiffer etc..

they allow the valve to move

and how many valves is your motor...16..then u need 32 new ones total ., if u have ITR motor depending on what kinda cam profiling you get youll have to change accordingly

there are two so you have a progressive spring rate. When the outer ring coils are binded you still have the spring pressure of the inner spring during high lift. This prevents valve float during high rpm.

NO

You NEVER want either spring to bind.
The reason for 2 springs is you can get more pressure out of two springs than you can with one.

Yes Sgt is right. Valvesprings inner/outer both serve the same purpose- To shut the valve. The inner spring is actually used as a dampner. At high RPM's and with high lift cams- this will reduce the chances of floating your valves.

Also, with inner and outter springs, it spreads out the pressure of the spring on the retainer, creating a less-likely chance that the retainer will break from too much pressure on the outside ring.
