Default Engine noise advice

1991 accord F22A4 4dr 140,000miles
I happen to be the same guy who posted here a week or two ago about screwing his motor up with nitrous And have gotten my car back into "running" order and...Well the "sewing machine noise" is said to be common from the F22 but now the "sewing" noise is drastically louder. I had a mechanic adjust my valves and he said that he changed the valve lash from the factory .10 or 10 (im not sure) to .8 or 8...The valves were clattering "like a ****" before I took it in and they still do, is it possible that the valve-lashing is the reason or is it forked up seats and I should drive it until it destroys itself and scrap the old motor and in with a new one?

So, basically what I am asking is should I take the car back to the guy and tell him to adjust to factory settings and hope like hell it works?

I don't have the spec here, but it sounds like 0.010", so he changed it to 0.008". You could have him set it back to spec, then maybe look elsewhere for the noise. I don't know what else, tho...

Screwed it up with nitrous?? How about bearings, wrist pins, or something else in the bottom end? I'm just guessing.

No, I burned up two valves, that was the problem.

So he replaced the valves that got burned? And its still noisy? Maybe he didn't notice any other valves that were marginal? Otherwise, if adjusting the valves didn't make any difference, then don't keep doing it over if you know its right. That's all I was saying.

actually I replaced the valves, and managed to FORK up the timing so I took it to a real mechanic and had him replace the timing belt, along with adjusting the valves because they were clattering

Ahhhh - more information...

Suppose(?) one or 2 additional valves were damaged a little bit, but you didn't notice. The mechanic probably didn't take off the head & actually inspect the valves. (Or did he??) He just fixed the cam timing & adjusted the valve lash.

If the noise is really at the top, maybe a loose valve guide? That's something the mechanic might not notice if he didn't take off the head.
