86 Accord LX Stalls in the rain .. HELP!!
86 Accord LX, carb, 247+ miles, when the sun is shinning there is no problem with how the cars runs, but when it rains, the car will lose power and stall out after about 20 miles of regular driving, then after the car sits for about 5 minutes, it will start up with a very high idle but is okay, and it continues until it stops raining .. help,
my 85 accord used to do that. took us 2 years to figure it out. my brother said it has something to do with an intake valve of some sort that would stick open or shut and restrict air when it's raining. It's been about 5 years or maybe more since i've had that problem and i was too young to know about cars so i never really checked up on it. i'd say check the intake parts.
this other guy around the block told me today to first spray clean all of the linkages around the carb second: set the low speed idle at 750 rpm and third reset the choke , what do u think?
This happened to my 87 before. My guess was (from prior experience on another type of car) was that the moisture from the rain got on the plug wires or distributor cap and was shorting out the ignition voltage going to the plugs. In other words, the water was grounding out the spark before it got to the plugs due to a possible break in the insulation of the plug wires. Next time it does it, have someone crank it over while you inspect the wires, coil, and dist. cap to see if you can see any visible blue sparks. Just a thought.

Would these same fixes help me with my high idle problem, my car will idle at over 3000 rpm at any given time regardless of weather or driving habits!
