86 accord JDM 5 speed-no reverse.
I just installed a jdm 5 speed in my 86 Accord LXi. All the forward gears work fine, syncros work fine. When I go to put it in reverse, it grinds bad. The input shaft wont completely dissengage when I push in the clutch. Removing 100% of the free play didnt even help. No changes were made except for swapping out the old 5 speed trans. The clutch disc, pressure plate, release bearing, and clutch cable are all new new Genuine Honda Parts and worked fine with the old trans. Can anyone Tell me whats going on?
I drive an 86 accord LX. I don't know what the heck you mean by JDM 5 speed, but mine is a 5-speed and it has a problem with reverse too. What I do is put it into 4th before i put it in reverse. I dunno why this works, my friend said he saw someone talking about it online *shrug*.
You're supposed to put it in any forward gear before putting it in reverse because reverse gear is not syncronized like the 5 forward gears are, which causes it to grind when you don't do that. It says that in the owners manual as well
