Default anyone make a cage for a del Sol?

well, i have decided to sell my Integra (which was my auto-x car, and hoped to one day have ti in ECHC) for financial reasons, but i have however, ended up with a del Sol that i only paid $400 for, so i was going to start racing it, and well, i was wondering if anyone made a bolt-in cage for it, or will i have to have one fabricated

I think cusco maybe made a 4 point cage but it is not leagal for road racing, beside that anything else is going to have to fabricated.

Fabricated. I almost went down that road, but unfortunately the 2nd sol is no more (long story). Check out a few pics I have of the only full cage road racing sol I know of at http://www.rose-hulman.edu/~davisbc/car/cottrellsol. If you're interested in SCCA, I think the del Sol could be pretty competitive in ITS.

From the looks of delsol4.jpg, it's had the El Camino conversion done.

that's a mighty nice delsol cage. indeed delsol vtec has record setting potential (on paper at least) in ITS.

Finally! At least now I can see how you should do the rear down bars. Thats how I thought it should be done. Just could never picture it in my head. I guess there is no legality problems with replacing the back window with lexan?

The SCCA GCR explicity allows targa roofed cars with upright rear windows (Del Sol, Porsche 914) to replace the rear with lexan IF AND ONLY IF the rear braces pass through the window.

hmm, the yellow bee paint del sol (richard holdner is the same i think) had lexan rear window, it's cage did not pass through the top of the trunk lid, how ever it did go through the rear bulk head area... i guess that was still legal.

Hmm, I thought you could only use lexan if the cage went through the window. Maybe the glass hangs down into the rear bulkhead area a bit? Or maybe mechanism that supports the glass had to be removed for the cage to pass through? I'll have to check my GCR tonight and see the exact wording for the lexan allowance.

Walt Puckett
Shelby NC

"metalworker" on this board.
See what he can do for you. It won't be cheap, but you won't get a cheap cage either.
